Really classy Shawn Keeler...

If Jamie hires 8 Championship coaches, and gets 1 to stay at Iowa State and win a title, thats a start and good enough for me at this state in th game for Iowa State. Gotta get them in the door first, and he's done that. Now lets keep em!!

Ok, I must be way off base here- glad i have you guys to straighten me out.

What's the matter? Does the truth hurt that bad?

Iowa State has never been able to keep a good coach in ames...ever hear of John Majors and Earle Bruce??? Those 2 escaped Ames and Iowa State for greener pastures at Pitt and Ohio State, and guess what Majors won a Natl Championship at Pitt....

ISU has never been able to keep a good football coach and never will, if Paul Rhoads is a success HE will LEAVE also for Greener Football Pastures elsewhere..

It is what it is and We are who we are !!!

Sometimes the truth hurts and with no money no fan support and no recruiting base the future looks dim at best...

Bash me all you want boys but the truth is what it is................

Disagree. Never is a long time and ISU has fan support AND money.

I also disagree with this. I'm not saying CPR will stay, but how can you say with 100% certainty that he will leave? He loves ISU and the state of Iowa, his family is here. If we can just keep his salary at the lower end of the competitive range then I could easily see him staying, but if you want to lend me your crystal ball I have some bets to make in vegas too?

And, with the new Big12 money (if it's anywhere near what is rumored) we'll be able to pay CPR and staff better salaries and build better facilities, etc, etc. And I agree with Frak, never is a long time, who's to say the next Nike or Under Armor doesn't start at ISU and we get our sugar daddy.

Also,

I would bet that the vast majority of Butler's athletic budget goes towards basketball (do they even HAVE a football team?). So the AD as a whole doesn't have a ton of money, but the basketball program isn't dirt-poor. I'll give you small fan base. But the school is in Indianapolis. They have a VERY nice pool to recruit, with Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio. They've managed to get some pretty good players because the talent in those states is VERY deep.

You make solid points. I'd argue that even though the talent is deep the competition is very high. Just in their home state they have indiana, purdue, norte dame, then throw in valpo, ball state and indiana state. I'm not knocking butler.

It's true, there's a lot of competition for Indiana players, which is why it's great that it's so rich in talent. And having Kentucky and Illinois right next door is huge. Hell, Shelvin Mack was taken from right under Kentucky's nose (He's from Lexington). Hayward was a lower-tier Indiana player, and he ended up being a first-round pick.

Great competition for the top in-state guys, but I'm guessing Butler has a pretty strong grip on the lower-tier, unless a team like Indiana or Purdue is really in need of an extra player or two. With their recent success, Butler could get just about any of the mid/lower tier guys in Indiana that they want.
