Here's to Jim Calhoun, the first NCAA men's coach in 2011 to win a major national title who DIDN'T work for Jamie Pollard at Iowa State.

Really classy Shawn Keeler... Where did this come from? Did you really need to throw Jamie Pollard under the bus after the finals with your tweet? You'd think the Register could lay off Iowa State and JP but no, they take every opportunity to take shots at ISU.

A few months ago I was defending shawn keeler saying he's pretty fair to ISU- not any more. I'm glad gene chizic is gone and we have the coaches we have now. Jamie Pollard is a winner and a first class athletics director...

I don't see the problem. I don't even think it was meant as an attack. I may even have been a compliment.

thin skinned

I think you might be overly sensitive with this one, JP must know talent when he sees it if he keeps hiring future national championship winning coaches. Now we just need one to stick around long enough to do it here.

It would be one thing if there wasn't much truth to it. But it is true. You can look at it as the quality coaches JP has hired. He has an eye for talent.

What's the matter? Does the truth hurt that bad?

Iowa State has never been able to keep a good coach in ames...ever hear of John Majors and Earle Bruce??? Those 2 escaped Ames and Iowa State for greener pastures at Pitt and Ohio State, and guess what Majors won a Natl Championship at Pitt....

ISU has never been able to keep a good football coach and never will, if Paul Rhoads is a success HE will LEAVE also for Greener Football Pastures elsewhere..

It is what it is and We are who we are !!!

Sometimes the truth hurts and with no money no fan support and no recruiting base the future looks dim at best...

Bash me all you want boys but the truth is what it is................

Butler? They have no money, no fan support, and no recruiting base and have made the NCAA finals 2 years in a row.

Quality COACH. Chizik doesn't count, IMO. He only started winning when he got back to a place that not only allows him to cheat, but practically encourages him to do so. Remember how he wanted to get that team chaplain or whatever for ISU? That was a head-scratcher to folks around this part of the country, but it's common practice down south. Preachers make for excellent middle men, because almost everything is covered by confidentiality.

I would bet that the vast majority of Butler's athletic budget goes towards basketball (do they even HAVE a football team?). So the AD as a whole doesn't have a ton of money, but the basketball program isn't dirt-poor. I'll give you small fan base. But the school is in Indianapolis. They have a VERY nice pool to recruit, with Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio. They've managed to get some pretty good players because the talent in those states is VERY deep.
