Realistic Expectations

Love these guys - this is what I'm hoping for them (realistically).

Non conference - Just get better each & every game - bench get some experience - ready to roll for B12.
Conference - Undefeated at Hilton - Limit stinker loss to 1 - steal 1 in Lawrence, Norman, or Waco - B12 Champs
Conference Tourney - Keep the momentum going - Finals/Semis
NCAA - Elite 8 +

Will we learn from TT, UAB, KSU, SC, & Maryland?
Will we improve defensively, offensive rebounds, mental/physical toughness, & stay together?
Who will pick up the slack when Georges or Monte has an off night?
Abdel Nader is my X factor - he's going to surprise the national pundits and many people on CF.

This would be a heck of a year.

14-4 in Big 12.

Drop to Cinci or A&M or both, win every other non-con because it mostly sucks.

Win first game in Big 12 tourney.

Win first game in tourney, probably make Sweet 16, anything after that is just more good feels.

Goals are:

Final Four, run at regular season title/conference tourney, 25+ wins. I don't know if we get there, but with this team this is what should be in the conversation. The final four is the trickiest because it depends so much on matchups, but minimum sweet 16.

I'm going with big expectations this year, because if not now, when would there be. I also learned my lesson last year and will enjoy the ride much more this season.

Expectations:
Be in the running for the Big 12 title, make it a race until the last week. Bold prediction is it is between ISU and OU while KU is in 3rd.
I expect we close more teams out earlier in the game this season, like a top ten team should.
Road warriors.
Fast start as the players don't need time to mesh and figure out roles.
NCAA tournament is a crap shoot, but disappointed if this team isn't Sweet 16 bound.

I'm looking forward to seeing:
What dimension Prohm adds to these players' games.
How Niang and Nader play off of each other. Seems like they have similar games.
McKay's offensive improvement, I'm not expecting him to be shooting 3's, but a consistent low blow game would be awesome.
Which bench player other than Thomas defines a role and steps up. Would be nice if it was Burton plus 1 more.

This happens a lot less frequently than one would think. I would be tickled but surprised if ISU is able to totally avoid someone managing to take down the Cyclones at home. I am hopeful, but I personally wouldn't put that down as an expectation.

I'd probably call it a "hope" rather than a mandate. I agree it is difficult to achieve, even in great seasons.

Also if 13-5 that would mean that ISU would at best lose to teams 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 on their floor.

That's the way I view it, too, as far as the five losses ... My best-guess would be at KU, at OU, at Baylor, at UT and at WVa. Following that pattern, 2 non-con losses would be @Cincy, @A&M. (Or possibly winning one of those but losing a neutral-site game).

I see it. I was fly-by posting. Thanks for the heads-up!
I'm trying to see if any of the idiot Hok trolls on this site take the bait and run on to Hawkeye Nation with my quote. They love taking sarcastic comments Cyclone Fans make on this site and circle jerk to it over on Hawkeye Nation.

Hawk dolts on Twitter do the same thing. I'm always baffled they don't see the obvious sarcasm. Truly blinded by hate.

I'd be very happy with finishing 2nd in the league, staying in the top 10-15 most of the year, and going to the Sweet 16.

Anything more than that would be gravy for me.

This. I can see this team sorta regressing early and dropping a couple then becoming a real top 10 team end of year. NCAA...who knows. I can say this..this team won't lose I'm rd 1 again. If this team is slightly Better defensively and rebounding I like our chances vs anyone

I think the season starts a bit rough as CSP and the team gel a bit.

2nd or 3rd in Big XII very similar conference race to last year. Probably 10 losses with a couple of stinkers in there.

I think that maybe, just maybe CSP gets a bit more out of the team by end of the year that CFH did. That along with a very seasoned group of players- Elite 8 run with a decent shot at Final Four.

Anywhere between 3rd and 1st in the B12, hopefully final 4 of the B12 tourney, would really love to see them win it again. Sweet 16 or better in the NCAAs.
