Realistic Expectations

My expectation is that the team is better than last year. Primarily in drive and focus, they need to have learned something from the UAB debacle.

As long as we beat Iowa, I'm happy.

That's a likely win, but Jesus man, set the bar a little higher for this team. They aren't even on our level in basketball. Garbage gingerball is looking like a 3 seed this year, in the NIT

I don't have a prediction on the regular season W/L. We'll be a top 2 seed IMO. Have the talent to make a championship run if Prohm figures things out by March.

I hope we are a better road team and don't lose to teams like Texas Tech on the road. But I would be happy with anything anything below a 10 loss season. I think offensively we will be fine, defense has been the area that has lost us games.i think our defense is the difference between us being a great team to an outstanding team.

Big 12 regular season champs
Semi final loss in the Big 12 tourney
Elite Eight or better in the tourney.

I think the key is Monte. If he and Phrom click and Monte is given the keys to this ride, I think we could be special. I love the emotion that Georges and Naz bring, but I would like to see Monte become even more of a leader. He is our most consistent player game to game and game. I think he can bring us some more consistency.

Rated about right.
Should contend for the Big 12 championship (probably in the top 3 at any rate)
Talent level to make it to the Final Four, but as others have said, too crazy to predict exactly.

This. I want to contend for a Big 12 title (expectation certainly is not to win it), get a Top 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, and see what happens. I'd like a Sweet 16 or better.

I'm hoping Georges plays with his back to the basket more this season. It seems like that's where he truly gets his offense going and where he is the most effective passer. He can get out of control when driving from the top of the key. He's very effective when drawing double teams and kicking it cross court or waiting for the double team to go away.

Realistic expectations:
1 or less non-conf losses.
Top 2 or 3 in Big 12 standings.
Sweet 16 in tourney.

Anything more than that is gravy.

I expect to finish top 3 in the conference. I also expect to only lose to good teams, no more SC, TT, UAB type losses.

Going through the schedule, I see 25-6 entering postseason, so go ahead and chalk up 23-8.

It's also great when a frustrated defender is hustling back to beat Georges to his spot on the block and instead Georges pulls up to receive a pass on the arc and drains a 3. It can be a dagger to the confidence of an already frustrated defender.

My basic realism-meets-potential expectation is 24-7, 13-5 Big 12, 2nd or tied for 2nd in league, 2 or 3 seed in NCAA tournament, reach at least second weekend, go undefeated at Hilton.

I feel the same. With him in the paint more often, it may improve our offensive rebounding as well.

Screw it. My expectations are really high. I expect the Final Four. This is why:

MM is the best point guard in the country (IMO). He's very similar to Tyus Jones
Niang is focused on improving his rebounding (hopefully at least blocking out better)
McKat has developed an outside shot
MT seemed to "figure it out" at the end of the year. Nobody has ever questioned his work ethic, just his consistency
Deonte Burton is a manchild
We've seen glimpses of Nader being great and we always hear about how unstoppable he is during practice
Cooke has a short track record but it looks very good
Simeon Carter has impressed so far
Long is one of the best clutch shooters in the country and seems to be progressing well from his surgeries
Niang and Long are physically and mentally tough leaders that leave their hearts on the court every single game

The issues this team needs to address:
Two out of the five of Thomas, Cooke, Long, Nader and Burton need to be healthy and consistently hit threes.
Two more of these five need to be at least competent
It would be nice if Carter and/or Ernst can give them some quality minutes. Not a lot but at least some
Backup point guard - not too worried as Long looked pretty good there last year and Cooke should be able to help

Edit: These issues are not major issues and should, realistically, be overcome.

Yes. I'm wearing Cardinal and Gold colored shades but, screw it, I'm not underselling these guys.

This happens a lot less frequently than one would think. I would be tickled but surprised if ISU is able to totally avoid someone managing to take down the Cyclones at home. I am hopeful, but I personally wouldn't put that down as an expectation. Also if 13-5 that would mean that ISU would at best lose to teams 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 on their floor.

With a dominate Nader thinking 12 pts 7 boards on average we could really surprise. I like that were pushing putting pressure on the ball more instead of the dont foul philosophy that ended up with us getting killed by 3 pointers. With those two things in mind I only see 4-5 regular season losses.
