This has been my question from a few pages back. Why wouldn’t they do this? People talk about GOR like it’s some unassailable fortress. It’s a Maginot Line. There is ALWAYS a way around it.

**** that guy and anyone else from that conference that thinks where they live is so much better than the middle of the country. There are a lot more desolate god forsaken shitholes out west of the Rockies than there is in the center of the US.
If so, why would the Big 12 throw a lifesaver to Utah when the Big 12 can get the best of the ACC after the Big Ten SEC take who they want? The Big 12 could get their choice of Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech along with Arizona, ASU and Colorado. That would be a solid conference.

It would still be a large net positive for the teams that get invites to the BIG or SEC, but there are a few things not addressed. The Big 12 will renegotiate before the end of the ACC deal. Which will actually decrease the difference between the ACC projections and the Big 12 projections, if not swap the difference. But he is also assuming that the Big 12 will accept all the remaining members needed to get to 8 to dissolve. I don't think that is necessarily a given. They may have to pay a few teams' AAC difference which is a much larger sum, but as stated earlier would still be a net positive. Then there are going to be a handful of other teams just SOL. That doesn't matter to the Big 12 at all, but I feel sympathy for them just like some of the PAC-12 teams. Dog eat dog world
Dunno, feels like if there are defections from the PAC, it will only be AZ and CU. I am cool with that. Then BY adds the 2 to 4 BB only schools.

I feel there is value getting realignment settled. To go through realignment chaos every time a conference TV media deal is renegotiated detracts from college athletics.
It isn't going to happen, but the best thing would be creation of a P3 now instead of fumbling toward it over the next 12 years
I have a feeling that if the ACC votes to dissolve the conference, all 8 would be aware of where they are going to be prior to voting for it.
As Gunner has said, maybe the GOR itself is unassailable, but there won't be a GOR if the conference votes itself out of existence. One way to get that done is make it "whole" for the other four schools that voted with you.
It's crazy how random life is...follow me here...sometimes in life what you think is terrible can turn out to be a positive down the road.
My case in point, the Big12 gets raped, raided, and railroaded for over a decade. Everyone in the nation is ridiculing us and thinking 'thank god I'm not that guy'. Well, guess what rest fo the nation, now you are that guy.
By some twist of fait, being the first to get raided allowed us to get our conference footing and clam our realignment waters, plus take charge of our own destiny.
It's nice that we've already gone through the Big12-steps-of-recovery — 3 times, and this realignment stuff seems normal to us now.

It’s never been a question about whether there is a legal avenue, it’s whether it’s worth the bill.
I find it hard to imagine that if Texas struggles to get out early any of these schools are going to any time soon. UT is way more valuable, had way more money, and a smaller bill.
The idea that the SEC is dying to get Clemson and FSU just isn’t probably true. Clemson-Miami drew a whopping 1.1 million viewers on ESPN on a 2:30 kick last year.
Clemson and FSU would be on their own paying this. Teams that don’t get good ratings in markets they already own aren’t going to make the SEC or their media partners pony up cash.
Who would have thought the ACC signing a long term GOR and media deal (back when it was originally signed) would be what created the instability of the ACC. The deal that they thought would keep the ACC stable did the opposite.
“Truck stop” could just as well as well mean areas where college sports are important to people.
Good and bad things come with everywhere you live and I’ve lived a lot of very different places. Some places fill up college football and basketball venues better than others and it’s not your Pac 10 that comes out on top Bill.
What you are missing, is that this isn't an attempt to actually challenge a GOR, it's an attempt to abolish it and make it no longer in play. Big difference.
Texas and OU had no ability to do this. FSU, UNC, Clemson, and Miami talk enough other schools (4) into doing it, there is no GOR to even challenge in court.
No, I’m talking those schools having to pay to bribe the others to dissolve. No matter what it’s going to cost the schools that want to leave a lot of money. They’d likely go in at partial payout for years. The GoR sets the “market” for a bribe or buyout.
