But it will be so much less money. They are only staying if there is unbalanced revenue sharing which will rot that conference from the inside out. No way Arizona and CU stay put for an even worse cut of less than big 12 money.
I think most schools will prefer more money, especially because the PAC will be the first P5 to miss the top 6 highest rated conference champions to make the playoffs.
I also feel the 6 best conference champs will be negotiated as the Commissioners meet to firm up the playoff structure. I don't think anyone will be happy if we have conference champions ranked 18+.
So far when presented the opportunity between improved chances to win a conference and cash, they have all taken the cash. Any of the schools get a Big 10 offer they are taking it. Not only for the money, but out of fear that Big 10 and SEC will pick off enough teams, get to a total of 48 and split off. The Big 10 doesn't need any of those schools, and the difference between a good pickup or a mediocre one in the grand scheme of per school revenue isn't going to make that big of a difference. A conference with Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State is probably worth $80-100M per school. The rest are all in the margins. Sure they want to optimize, but there's nobody but ND left that is going to drive the revenue up by a meaningful amount across 18-24 teams at $80-100M per team as it is.

I agree. I have been lurking on the Pac's message boards. Arizona is the most Big 12 positive. Colorado has resigned itself that maybe they should go to the Big 12.
Technically, you're correct, but the key word is 'aligns'.
Part of the reason I say don’t take anymore than we need. UO and UW if they will come if not, 2 others. I know the other schools may lose value over time, but tell me how that is bad when we are looking at a large break away in the future possibly. It cuts the Competition. To get there. It’s possible when the ACC explodes we could have a set of the P2 and the big XII with a very weak PAC and ACC left. It’s possible that 3 conferences survive and we get 3 20s out of this. So take what we need, no more and walk away.
What's fascinating was the draw of the backyard brawl. Those rivalry matchups can not be ignored. If you get one of those per week in a conference, the conference's ratings will shoot up and be more desirable. BUT, they've gotta be blood thirsty rivalries, ala BYU vs Utah, KS vs K-State, etc.
Think you are onto something there, that could be part of the branding for the big12. Does provide bigger games and more valuable content, thus $$. But also, something along the lines of the "it just means more" tagline.
It was also the first game of the year, people want football after 8-9 months off. It would still draw well in October but not like it did this year.

I don't think we should be deciding what Pac12 schools are "Big12 Worthy" by random fans on message boards.
Based on KenPom the Big 12 is probably currently in a 7-8 year run of dominance beyond what any other conference has achieved. I don’t think even our own fans appreciate this league.
