Why do you keep talking about attendance like it matters in realignment? It doesn’t. Wins and losses barely matter. It’s money, which comes from TV viewers. That’s it. A school can have 100,000 people at the stadium and if no one is turning the game on TV, they’ll be in the MAC.

The ability to self-fund is important, and 100k would do it. It’s also conventionally used in models for expected valuations and brand potential. Ask anyone that’s in the industry, and attendance of 100k would be a part of decision

Hahaha might be wishy washy but is the most accurate. Also I am coming from a big ten perspective so obv my view is skewed. Michigan wont even participate in NIL and its cratering their team this year so I feel confident saying they would never force a move but who knows with OSU. Its also a very different prospective because across the big ten sphere no one really cares about expansion or that the cali teams are joining. Its kinda just business as usual which is a bit disappointing but its the reality.

By not participating in the NIL do you mean not letting their athletes participate or not bundling packages for them to have upon signing their scholly.

I'd assume we're going to see a pretty obscene hike in coaching salaries when the new money starts rolling in, that's where there could be a big difference.

I don’t know if it’s a good comparison, but this model works fine for the NFL.

And that model is a complete disaster for other attempted football league.

The P2 model with 30 some teams removes all the product differentiation from the NFL. Then it’s just the NFL with much lower quality football.

CFB succeeds because it has (well had) great matchups that are largely regional, yet with enough interest nationally because there are fans across the country whose teams are “in the club.” Cutting out good fanbases that watch games and entire states and regions from the club is a risk.

The way the SEC and Big 10 maximize $ is to keep these leagues and teams in the club and throw a playoff access bone, but dominate the playoff spots. Let’s say a P3 with 60 teams and 8 playoff spots. An auto bid for each of the 3 and 5 at large that are dominated by the SEC and Big 10.

There are more than five conferences now. But I wouldn't be cool with being in the AAC...and that's where we're headed. I'm sure you'd follow ISU if they were in the Missouri Valley, because you're a better fan than me. If ISU falls out of the top tier of the conference system that we're in now, I'm done with CFB. And awesome fans like you are in the minority. The bright side for you is that ISU football tickets will be dirt cheap and there will be plenty of room to stretch out in JTS.

Honestly, three major conferences make more sense for the health of college football than two, even if the third is weaker than the top two.

Not that he’s an expert but Dan Patrick was talking about this, he thinks 60 teams is actually the sweet spot for teams and conferences to make the most money long term. Fracturing CFB explicitly into something small will really hurt CFB down the road.
