Agreed. But even if those disadvantages had improved, even dramatically, we're probably still having this conversation today.

With the dollars at stake here and NIL/pay for play knocking - plus the complete absence of any central authority in the sport to moderate these greedy, destructive impulses that lead to consolidation - I think this end result was more or less inevitable all along.

Texas had its very own network that was quite lucrative despite being a disaster, and that wasn't enough to keep it happy. If there's a singular data point that explains all this, that's it.

Big 12 could be in a position to tell Washington, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State that they have 4 spots and they're going to the first 4 to call back with a yes.

Like this hasnt been a done deal for a while. Its just a media storm now because it was just released today. Sure maybe they released today that they voted. Like they didnt know they were going to? hell today was probably all just the basic formality "hey we doin dis"

I believe we will see both the SEC and Big 10 expand to 20 or 24 teams. These will be the Tier 1 conference in college football.

Tier 2 will be the leftovers of the Big 12, Pac 12, ACC, plus anywhere from 3 to 9 of the best remaining G5. If these conferences can get their **** together (spoiler, they won't), there is a solid opportunity to build a conference with 24-32 teams, split into 4 divisions geographically.

Tier 3 will be what's left over of the FBS, plus potentially some of the top of FCS looking to move up while they still can.

Yes but they shouldn't tell them it's an open invitation. They could all decide to stick together as a Pac-10. They could even try to pull Kansas or Tech or BYU or whatever. Big 12 should get them on the ropes quickly.

This is really the best case scenario in this round for ISU. If this is slow-played, a lot of uncertainty remains and it gives the PAC-12 more time to pull something out of their a$$es. Ripping the band aid off and letting things get settled is the best way forward. I’m referring to the report that UW and Oregon are leaving.

This is where college sports starts to lose its luster. Part of what makes college athletics great is that it’s regional. USC vs Rutgers at 11 am is meaningless.

Also, Washington St and Oregon St are in worse shape than we were around this time last summer

Basketball will never be in the conversation with FB. Pipe dream and it's silly to value basketball in realignment.

But does that historical reality continue if a conferences primary media partner is an entity like Apple or Amazon?

Big 12 Football games are almost exclusively on Saturday. Last year Big12 basketball games were shown predominantly on Mon, Tue, Wed and Saturday. Let's say Amazon gets the Big12 TV contract and has the ability to seamlessly sell product to viewers of live sporting events. They allow viewers to bet on games, buy merchandise off Amazon, buy groceries from HyVee, etc. etc. all while watching TV. So having 30+ basketball events (60+ hours) might have significant value to Amazon or Apple.

Not saying equal value as football, but a valuable part of the media rights conversation. If I watch Big12 football games on Amazon Prime on Satuday- that's 1x a week I might come to the Amazon platform. Conversely, if I am a Big12 basketball fan, there could be 7 days a week that Big12 games are televised. 7 opportunities for push/pull merchandising. I might also develop an affinity to the Amazon Prime platform and make it my streaming platform of choice and spend 20+ hours/week watching Amazon programing other than live sports.

Iowa barely beats Nebraska every year. As bad as Nebraska is, that's sad. And I find it hilarious. Yes. Nebraska is a coaching staff away from being relevant again. I hate to say that. But yes.

The last time Nebraska was relevant at a national level no current high school recruits were even born and they lost their Texas/Oklahoma pipeline when they left the Big 12. Not to mention it’s a low population state. I couldn’t disagree with you more.

Yeah, this is pretty much status quo at worst for the big 12. Its not great, but its where we've been at for a year now. All we've lost now is the potential for a merger of some kind with the PAC that wouldve included those teams, which was never a likely prospect to begin with. The big 12 may even be stronger if it can grab 4-6 PAC members.

They assume it’s just two teams and the rest of the Pac is gonna be super strong forever rather than Big 12 picking up some teams. It’s funny.

I agree this is likely.

if there are 48 in the Big10 +SEC I think we have a decent shot due to our rabid fan base and the streaming potential.

if there are 40, I think we are tier 2.
