Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

I agree but if your saying MSU/Mich, Why not include Iowa, Iowa State
Because we aren’t in the same conference. I talking about teams in the perceived P2 that don’t bring additional value. Not saying Iowa does, but Michigan gives you their state, MSU doesn’t. Not sure who brings Indiana.

I can tell you that here in Colorado, hardly anyone is even aware of this news today, nor cares. And this is the 17th biggest TV market in the country.

The more this sport becomes non-regional, the less people are going to watch nationally, and then these super conferences will make less money. These contracts make sense now but will they in 5 years? 10?

In 10 years, the top programs in the two super leagues will probably ask themselves again, "why are we carrying this dead weight?" and then break off again to create a super super league. Then the whole cycle will start over again and half of the super super teams will want to break off again. Somebody has to lose these games. And unless a salary (NIL) cap comes into play, there will be perennial losers and winners. Even with a cap, half the country wont watch if their teams arent in the picture.

I think they did what they had to do, but I also think that this is exactly why they stopped at 12.

This is a good point; lots of people are saying that the Big 12 might have regret today, but it seemed like a real possibility that we could be at 14 now with Boise State and Memphis, and THAT would actually be worthy of regret if this situation happened and we had buyer's remorse. If the B1G does what is expected, we can add 4 valuable Pac-12 leftovers and still be at a workable 16 schools.

But schools are going to wait for a B10 or SEC invite before anything. We can feed off the leftovers which should still be pretty decent.

Fair analysis, and I would say Indiana over Purdue brings Indy.

Agree, the conference leadership panicked when they added UCF and UH. Should have added Cincinnati and BYU and waited for something like this to happen which wasn't unforseen.
Everyone is a genius when they have the benefit of hindsight

Does anyone know if Utah actually would want to be in the same conference as BYU?

They do not want to be, but if the B1G raids what's left of the Pac-12, they will not have a choice. It'll be either the Big 12 or demoted back to the Mountain West.
