If you are coming for Isu homecoming tailgating this year give me a shout out.
While there are no Big 12 or SEC teams in New England, it's possible that Massachusetts will move to ATLANTIC time zone which would add a 6th time zone to the US by this calculation. There already is a tiny slice of Maine that's in the ATZ. For me, that means a 10 p.m. start to week night basketball games and perhaps an 11 p.m. start to any ISU football game that's played on the west coast.
I have season tickets and try to get to Ames when I can, but when I can't and these games start so late, the DVR comes in handy.
Already looking at a potential 5 time zones, with perhaps adding a 6th, is something I hope the Big 12 considers while it moves ahead with ANY expansion.
I am a little (just a little) surprised that Hawaii isn't being considered in some expansion scenarios, especially by the Pac-12. Add another time zone, Research 1 university, fabulous road trips, fertile recruiting territory in terms of quality of players if not quantity, the late night window, a history of playing competitive football against Pac-12 teams, etc. A new Aloha Stadium is being planned for the middle of this decade.
I'm not sure I see as much value in Hawaii. They are 5 hours behind Central right now, 6 behind eastern. As a football fan in the Central time zone right now I already bail on the Pac after dark games by halftime more often than not. Hawaii games at night would be hours beyond that.
Add in the relatively small population in Hawaii itself and the logistics issues of traveling out there, and I struggle to see it. Maybe if the Pac survived and expanded they could work. But no way you could fold them in to a conference in the Central or Eastern time zones.
I thought it passed and now you pissed me off. Why the hell has this not passed.
And nobody's even brought up the Navajo Nation part of Arizona.

This guy is such a dang clown I can't stand it at this point. His assertion that the Big 12 would just disband, then reform with different teams than they have now is so mind blowingly stupid and incorrect it should be grounds for firing.
I agree with you, but I don't think them becoming good is some sort of given.
Even if you count them as a great add, which they probably are, you're still at 4 out of 5 of the last adds being a real downgrade on the quality of the conference and I don't think that's debatable. And even then, if we're talking about an SEC arms race, they are so disconnected from the rest of the conference geographically and culturally I still don't think it's a good fit.
Also, they won't play ND, Mich, OSU, and PSU every year. I bet they play 2 of 3 of OSU, PSU, and Mich and ND. That's 3 big games. They still have 9 more against teams their fans will not care about in the least.

Yep Rutgers and Maryland were added just for the Markets which they delivered and helped the big ten pull away in terms of media dollars. They were also added over a decade ago at this point and the landscape was different. Nebraska was supposed to be a good football add but while the on field product has sucked they are still delivering on the ratings front so a positive add.
USC fans and fans in general care more about playing teams that are ranked which the big ten usually has 5-6 each year. Now seeing who they play in a given year is up in the air. Kinda like how Michigan this year is only expected to play 2 ranked teams.
The final thing is that all these SEC teams wont have great records. The playoff expansion is great to get some extra teams in but nothing says that OUT wont fall on their faces in the SEC. Time will tell but obviously the move to get OUT was a masterclass move
Guys job is to get clicks and views. Pissing off big12 people who then click on and read his article, then tweet/talk about it is actually giving him job security
These guys are dumb. If a league were to dissolve it wold be because a majority of teams that could make more elsewhere. PAC has teams with potential Big 10 interest. Big 12 does not. All indications are that the Big 12 media is more valuable. And last, the Big 12 has the GoR OUT incentive to stay together, PAC does not.
Of these triggers that might push teams to want to dissolve a conference, none are present in the Big 12, and are all present in the PAC 12.
I get being a homer, but the things these guys throw out are completely counter to logic.
But yes, a conference with a GoR hurdle, with no teams with likely P2 interest, poised to make more money is going to dissolve join the PAC.
Big 12: Let’s dissolve so we can let OUT off the hook, make less money, and play in empty stadiums. None of our teams are going to the P2 so we are stable, but still.

I'd love to see UO or UW join the Big12, only to destroy any remaining illusions of the make believe world these bozos live in.

2021: one, two if you count b10 ccg
2020: zero
2019: four
2018: two
2017: three
2 per year average
USC’s Pac games vs ranked:
2021: zero
2020: zero
2019: four
2018: two
2017: three, four if count title game

Strikingly similar, almost identical year to year for five years straight.
If you add in annual rival Iowa State’s one game ranked at time of play those years and and USC’s annual rival Notre Dame being ranked four, you see they’re already playing more ranked teams as a typical big ten team might.
For USC to actually up the competition they need an unbalanced schedule of the Mich/osu/PSU/msu. Which would mean other teams are getting even more cakewalk schedules than they do now. Unless more cash suddenly makes Rutgers and Nebraska good.
If there’s a league where teams play against 5-6 ranked teams it’s only the worst luck SEC schedules.
Depends on if you’re talking about ranked when the play or how the season finishes. Nebraska played 5 teams last year that ended up being ranked. Sparty played 5 that were ranked at the time (only 3 once the season ended). Usually the big ten has any combo of OSU, MICH, MSU, PSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, USC and sometimes Minn ranked. Even had Purdue ranked last year for a bit and Indiana lol. Just depends on the season. With the playoffs expanding hopefully we see even more non con games against ranked teams.
