Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Players as employees could bring a little (emphasis on little) more parity through 2 or 4 year contracts (which would be good for players too so coaches can’t just cut loose underachievers), 1-year sit out clauses for transfers and/or transfer fees, salary cap, etc
Didn't the NCAA already decide that with relaxation of transfer rules?

ISU sponsor's 6 men's and 10 women's sports. If athletes become employees, the revised sponsored sports may look like the below:

Men's
Football
Basketball
Cross Country
Wrestling
Golf
Track and field

Women's
Basketball
Cross Country
Gymnastics
Softball
Golf
Track and field
Soccer
Swimming and diving
Tennis
Volleyball

ESPN wants everyone to look at the shiny object of a national title and forget about what built the sport to begin with. Saturday's Farmageddon is irrelevant to the national playoff, but I'll be cheering for the 'Cones anyway. In fact, if the national championship becomes more removed from ISU and the Big XII, I will care less and less.
The 2020 ISU team would have made a 12-team playoff. We had the players to compete for at least a shot at a NC. As long as there is a 12-team playoff, the B12 will have 1-2 teams in the CFP. I would be an ISU fan even if ISU were FCS level, but I would have very little interest in watching the CFP if that were the case.

So you think we are leaving D1 and going NAIA then?

I assume with your comment that there is minimum. Maybe the schools will lobby to have it reduced. Alternative is some schools may drop football or the school's general funds will be used. That means cutting in educational areas or more state support, thus possibly higher taxes.

Yeah we have 18 or 19. There is a 16 minimum for the big 12 and I think 14 or 15 for D1.

If athletes become employees, it may only apply to significant revenue generating sports- MBB, WBB, FB, WR, VB? And the pool of competing schools could be much smaller (e.g. At how many schools is WBB, VB or WR revenue generating to cover employee salary and benefits?).

Title IX is also a consideration. I am sure people are looking to see if FB and MBB can be spun off from the University entity. B Then maybe all other sports have a structure same as today. But without the $ from FB/MBB, I would think there would be cuts or cost tightening.

The rules will be made by the haves. NCAA will not govern the top FB schools
I would be surprised if the NCAA eventually governs the top basketball schools as well. Especially if Yormark gets his wish and basketball media rights are a separate contract.

The first rebuttal in this article is spot on. He was at some Texas Tech event attended by Texas Tech fans, so of course he was going to make them laugh or stroke their egos. I'm sure Yormark wants Tech and all the other schools to defeat Texas and Oklahoma this season as well, but Yormark read the crowd and played to it.

Texas fans are just thin skinned. They're ego is going to constantly be getting punched left and right in the SEC.

Bigger thing would be if MBB creates their own March madness tournament.

I hope they end up like Nebraska.
Living in Husker Land, it has been quite the year. They got to 5-3 with wins over..... well, no one really. Then they had the remaining "gauntlet" (LOL) of Michigan State, Maryland, Wisconsin and Iowa. They lost those games by 3 points, 3 points, 7 points and 3 points. Nebraska had one of the easiest schedules in the nation. But here in Dreamland they still think Rhule just needs more time. Oh, and they lead the entire country in turnovers. Pairs well with their "sellout" streak. And now they add Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA to future schedules. Good luck winning more national titles.

I feel so bad for their fans who 13 years ago were taunting us with, "Have fun playing in the MAC!

Isn't this now the 7th year in a row that Nebraska couldn't get bowl eligible? sheesh, how far the mighty has fallen.

I could see VB surviving before gymnastics.

I think he will make Nebraska successful, but that's a relative thing. Eight and four and a decent bowl game would be way better than they've been for years. I doubt they'll be contending for national championships. It'd be nice to see them beat Iowa once in a while.
