So it didn't take as long as I thought. This would be 3 yearly protected rivalries, leaving you to play the other 12 teams at 6 each every other year. That's fairly elegant, and at least you aren't skipping people for 3 or 4 years or more.

Some of these were pretty obvious, but some weren't. Esp for say Houston or UCF, where I am not sure who they even consider a rival.

My priorities here were to preserve existing big rivalries (Farmageddon, Holy War, etc), to get everyone a game in TX for recruiting, and then some geography/history after that.

Good point on KSU and KU, disagree on ISU and KSU.

I hope most years ISU and KSU play… but we have no reason to mandate it.

Why force 3 protected rivals? Why not do it like the Big 10 did. Seemed like it worked out. A lot of these seem like forced rivalries that don't really mean anything. ISU/Cin, BYU/AZ/ASU, CU/TT, TCU/AS plus plenty of others.

i think the AD was criticizing the travel distance between the schools on not the character/quality of morgantown. and that was why he wasnt interested in taking the trip.

Yeah, I don't think your understanding of the comment is how a majority of people took it. IMO, it was a straight shot at Morgantown and West Virginia.

Does anyone outside of the fan bases involved view 95% of the existing rivalries as “compelling”? Like seriously - do you go out of your way to watch Duke-UNC football? UVA-VT? UNC-NCST?

No, I completely agree. I was responding to a post implying ISU KSU is (or could be) a compelling game. My argument is that the compelling games are the ones featuring the best teams in each conference. I simply want to make sure we schedule the games most valuable to our media partners, and ones that will maximize exposure and high level post season opportunities for the big 12. If ISU is expected to be a pre-season top 5 team, and KSU is expected to be trash… I’d be ok skipping that game. Sure, they have to play somebody, but lets not mandate it, or mandate anything.

It’s a new world, history and tradition are meaningless, especially for this new big 12. Nobody in the CFB community would be mourning the loss of the ISU / KSU game.

i totally get that in the context of Crow being an asshat and then the AD saying this the next day... it looked horrible. i just dont think the AD was taking a shot at morgantown. i think he was thumbing his nose at the travel, not the culture.

Let's dump 'Farmageddon' for something more apt, such as 'GMO Game', as a tribute to how we've improved our prairies.

As a word??? Farmageddon is stupid and has no meaning beyond the individual/committee that came up with it. Find something else that the city folk in Florida or Texas or Arizona can get behind.

Or else play the game opposite one that everyone outside Iowa and Kansas will watch.

The games that will attract the most attention are those that will be between the B12 remnants and the new schools.

I don’t watch any rivalry games! Large populated states make it bigger than others. That’s why the Midwest isn’t really considered for big rivalries. ISU vs. Iowa, maybe, but only bc Iowa is in the BIG.

Looks like the start of a new pumped up rivalry, sparked by disgust on one hand and anger on the other. How else are good rivalries started? I can see the blood and gore across the football field and elbow checking on the basketball court. WHOOPEE!

protected rivalries solve all these issues with pod construction. There is absolutely no reason to do pods

The ease of scheduling etc, in a 16 team conf. makes pods pretty simple.
Protected rivalries get more traction above or below 16, or more than 9 games.

I dont get why people think protected rivalries are automatically superior. The 4 pods being talked about are pretty good, except the one that puts us in the eastern pod for some reason. I really dont see protected rivalries being better, at least at 16.

ISU/KSU is the longest continuous, never interrupted rivalry. It needs to continue. Maintaining things like that are the only thing keeping CFB somewhat like it always has been.
