Gotta' pay of some of the AD building and discrimination "obligations" maybe?
Looks like they're building another new residence hall closer to central campus on the east side of the river. Mayflower was always the weird dorm that nobody ever wanted because it's so far away from everything.
The only draw it had was that it was one of the first, maybe the first at UI, that had suite-style dorm living arrangements, two dorms connected by a common living area in the middle. But yeah, not walkable at all.Since I'm not overly familiar with UI's campus I looked Mayflower up on maps....yeah that would suck as a college kid.

Isn’t the entire campus so far away from everything?
Mayflower has been a dorm for a lot longer than 25 years. It was originally a private residence that sui bought probably 25 years ago and spent $$$ renovating it. Also has flood protection now.
Definitely more spread out than ISU's campus but most of the undergrad stuff is concentrated on the east side of the river. I lived in Rienow on the west side of the river right by the fieldhouse, all my classes were on the east side except PE.Isn’t the entire campus so far away from everything?
Say a hotel wants it, after reno they'd be in for like 100 mil.
Is it? I have no idea. That’s cheap if someone were to build something similar now.
