Ranking the Future BIG12

I was listening to Woody and Stans on the FART talk about the future BIG12 and it got me thinking about where ISU sits in the pecking order. Below are my rankings of where the programs are at IMO.

1. Ok State: I debated between the top 2 for awhile but ultimately decided on this for #1. Gundy doesn't seem to be going anywhere and has shown he can adapt. They have been very good for a long time.
2. Baylor: I hate putting them this high but it is hard to argue against. They have survived multiple coaching changes and have still been very good. Aranda seems like he wants to stick around and is a really good coach.
3. Cincy: They made the playoffs so I have a hard time putting them any lower. It will be interesting to see what happens when they move up into a tougher conference.
4. ISU: The program has been elevated. If recruiting continues to improve and Campbell sticks around we could definitely move up.
5. BYU: I'm sure BYU fans would argue they are above ISU but I would like them to prove it in a league first.
6. TCU: Shown they can compete at a high level.
7. K-State: Klieman isn't Snyder but I think he is solid.
8. WVU: Could see them being jumped by Houston and UCF in the next few years.
9. Houston: Potential is there. Let's see what happens in an elevated league.
10. UCF: See Houston
11. Tech: Lots of Texas competition in the league plus more from the SEC.
12. Kansas: Is Kansas

Interested in other people's thoughts.
I'm thinking that we'll see a much different Kansas, Tech, TCU and Houston next year along with a significantly improved K State and WVU---so a much more balanced league than this year. We might be a lot like the NFL has become whereby it will be most difficult for any team to dominate and that the season champion and playoff champion might have 3 to 4 losses. The question thereby becomes: Will the Big 12 be able to keep their status as an "automatic" for the CFP?

If we never have champion that doesn't have 3 or 4 losses? No. Even in an expanded playoff I'm not sure a 4 loss team gets in for sure from the Big 12.

Beacause if we take this year as a measure:

Ohio State, Notre Dame, Okie State, Baylor would all likely be in. Then add in a likely 11-2 Pittsburg team. Probable 10-2 Ole Miss. That takes us to 10. BYU at 10-2 probably? I mean they beat a bunch of Pac-12 teams, non-elite but still. And then maybe Utah? Or possibly Oregon and Utah. IDK.

But there's almost no shot of a 3 less team making it in most years, and certainly not a 4 loss team.

UCF, Houston, and Cincy all have a lot of local talent. Whatever argument is made for TCU being a top half competitor can be made for them.

It’s going to have compelling parity. High entertainment value

Idk what to think about TCU. Kind of the inverse of us. Lots of local talent, but small fan base.

I'm assuming we are going to have an eleven game round robin conference season...

:campbell: :p
I'd have a hard time seeing that happen. I assume it'll be two 6 team divisions like it was before. So that starts another subject, how would we split the conference? North/South, East/West

Didn't include BYU just due to no consistent conference scheduling.
Could include BYU's record vs P5 competition?

LOT of recency bias in here. And if you mean right now, today, or projected for 2022, then OK.

But longer term, I think Tech is a sleeping giant, and if I could buy shares in them today, I absolutely would. Big enrolment and population base, access to talent, some big money boosters, and the crazy Texas football culture. Once they get the right coach they will absolutely be top tier.

Pods man. Tide pods.

Probably won’t have any geographical reasoning.

I thought the three emojis were enough to make it clear that this was entirely tongue in cheek, but apparently not...

Perhaps we follow B10 league scheduling and we can avoid playing the other top teams, but every 3-5 years except in conference championships

Ranking teams now is pointless, we do not know what the future brings TV money wise into the conference. That is important to see how much each school will have in revenue to pay coaches and continue to improve facilities. What does each school look like with regards to NIL, and finally no one knows how much of a jump the former G5 schools are going to get in recruiting and fan base for attendance once they are members of the Big 12.
