Rank our players

Yeah, after I realized that, I scraped the idea.

I'm sure there are certain matchups out there that FH would do this in a heartbeat- even in the big 12. Remember not every team has a Jeffy Withy that would tear a smaller team a new one if they didn't match up size wise. That and surprisingly, ISU is one of the better rebounding teams out there. Part of that is becuase of having Ejim and Clyburn who are pretty good rebounding wings on top of Niang, Gibson, and book who can pull down a fair amount of boards even though none of them are really a true center.

Two people have Mcgee ranked second, one person ranked him third, and every other poster ranked him first. I agree with the general consensus and I think Mcgee should start and see 10 more mins per game. I know its not an easy answer...who do u sit, but I think he's too valuable to not have on the floor more. He did nothing but confirm this opinion for me in the few games he did start this year. Also, I think that Tyrus has earned the title and respect that comes with being called a starter.

Doesn't matter to me who starts, but McGee should be top 3 or 4 in total minutes or we're wasting our most efficient scorer and a good defender situationally.

I have this bad feeling I can't shake that Withey is going to drop like 30 on us. Someone will have a career night against us this year, and this one wouldn't surprise me.

1. McGee (has lapses on defense)
2. Clyburn (leading scorer, second in rebounds. Needs to limit turnovers)
3. Niang (Brings the most energy along with McGee)
4. Ejim (his rebounding is key)
5. Babb (defense is why he's 5th)
6. Lucious (Once he limits turnovers he will be fine. Capable scorer.)
7. Gibson (needs to get back to playing with Niang. I don't know why that stopped)
8. Booker (he should be so much better.)

I think this is pretty close. 3-6 are pretty hard to rate since the roles are so different (comparing Ejim to Lucious is pretty apples and oranges). I think I'd switch 3 and 4 right now and I expect Clyburn to eventually pass McGee.

A few questions that popped into my head as I was going through this -

Could McGee play at the level he does for 30+ minutes a game? The guy just plays so hard I'm not sure he could go that long.

While we bag on Lucious pretty hard, do you think if anyone else on the list was asked to play the point and facilitate the offense do you think they'd be rated higher?

Similar for Babb - if anyone else was asked to play his defensive role would they be rated higher?

For Niang he's an awesome basketball player and I'm more excited about him than anyone I've seen on campus for a long time, but I also like the number of minutes he's playing right now. The season is usually a long haul for a freshman and keeping his minutes from getting too high and keeping him fresh for the final push sounds good to me.

I think we have McGee out there as much as we can, I'm not sure he could go for 30+. That is also why I wish he would start, it would give him more minutes as he could be resting when he would normally be going in for the first time which would result in more minutes.

I wouldn't guess anyone would be better than Lucious at the point, especially from what we have seen thus far from those that have tried, but they weren't brought here to play that position either.

As far as defensive role, McGee works his butt of on defense, not saying he would be better but I would give him a close second.

I like how we are using Niang so far as well. All of our bigs could use work defensively though.

I think that would be one of the downsides to this lineup, that and defensively we would probably struggle down low, but man, just think of the offense these five could get going.

Clyburn is the most important member of the team. If he is not involved then its not going to be a good outcome.(i.e. Iowa game) Here is how I would rank them :
Clyburn
McGee
Ejim
Babb
Niang
Lucious
Booker

1. Clyburn (I expect him to lead team in points and rebounds in Big 12 play)
2. Ejim
3. Babb
4. McGee
5. Lucious
6. Niang
7. Gibson
8. Booker
