Lake Pathway Riding Adventures with Boxster, June 6th addition:
Mile 1: Shout out “*******!” to this guy buzzing down a narrow two way path on a steep hill zipping in and out of other bikes in a park at 25 mph or so. Immediately think better of it since this guy was like a fraction of my age and likely 40-50 pounds heavier. Even though he did not chase me down to beat me up, Boxster needs more ride discipline. However, he really was riding like an *******.
Mile 22: Dreadlocks guy in the “Midasize It!” old Honda runs a stop sign and almost nails me. I was coming from his left and he was turning left and looking right and not stopping. It was way too close.
Mile 25: Soccer mom running a stop sign while turning right and looking left tries to run me over as I approach on bike path from the right. I saw her transparent and clumsy attempt at killing me in time to stop. Not as close as Mile 22.
Had Simon and Garfunkel’s “America” stuck in my head for the entire two hour ride. Thanks, Pants!
I may not make it through this summer.

Does anyone else have a family reunion? How about every year? Does your mom lay the guilt trips down to try to get you to go?

I threw about 400 pitches at baseball practice last night, thus, I have a question. When your arm falls off, does it tend to fall of in one piece or does it fall off piecemeal? I just want to know if I should carry around a couple of bags like you do when you're out walking the dog.
they still let us know when it's happening, but we stopped going a few years ago. The guilt stopped working, ha. Family we actually knew (and liked) don't go and it's usually about this time of year when we have other stuff going on.
We will go when it is convenient for us (either here in CR or over at the farm). This year it is back at the farm and is the 50th consecutive year they have had a reunion. They wanted to make a bigger deal out of it with more thing for kids but are not getting the attendance that they thought they would.
I tell my mom that our generation doesn't care about these things and it is more of a formality than anything. If we want to catch up with our cousins we will text, catch up on FB, call or go visit them. We don't need to wait for a yearly thing. Not to mention it always ends up being each family keeping to themselves for the most part.
I'm torn a bit on the subject. I hated them growing up. I am the youngest of 8 and my dad was the youngest of 7. As a result, I was always the youngest and was bored out of my mind when we were forced to go to them. It was endless hours of "I remember you when you were this tall" and "Do you remember me", with no other kids to play with.
With recent family reunions, it's hard to want to commit one of my rare "free" weekends to go to something that's far down on my "places I'd like to go" list. I like to be able to relax, spend time with my own family and friends, etc.
However, I'm also in a period where most of my aunts and uncles are in their 80's and 90's and passing away every few years. I know I have a limited time to hear about some of their stories, things they had to deal with on a daily basis, how different events affected their lives. Having a group of them together enables an open discussion and will often jog peoples' memories enough to recollect something they might otherwise forget.
I'm also a little concerned that people are growing farther and farther apart from their extended families. It's mostly due to children not staying close to home like they used to, of course. But I think some of it has to be attributed to the ease of keeping in contact via Facebook, so the face to face contact isn't as necessary.
I think you'll see family reunions slowly become things of the past. People can pick and choose which parts of their families they pay attention to, which can be good and bad.
this is typically what it was. So when the people we wanted to see weren't going........well, I've got better things to do on summer Sundays. Would rather see the nieces without 17 random grandma-age women snatching them up.
btw, we got to see them over the weekend and apparently they've been asking about coming to our house for another visit. So I guess the trauma from last year wore off eventually
Ours isn't a family reunion as much as it is a family tradition. We go to Omaha over the 4th of July and whoever can make it from hubby's side comes. His aunt and uncle live there as do the 2 cousins on that side and their families. I think hubby went before we were dating, since we've been dating we haven't missed too many years.
As for family reunions in the traditional sense, my dad's side used to do them every so often. Considering he is 76 and the youngest of his siblings, there hasn't been one in awhile. He has tons of cousins (or had, I should say
