???
I've never heard it pronounced any other way when talking about the town...
Hey 00, my mom made 8 lbs of barbecue for the party, and everyone called it barbecue
Yes, the town is pretty clear (ne-vay-da), but it's different from the state, and the state I've heard it with a hard A (like the a in catch) and a soft A (like caught).
I guess what I'm saying is I can expect a non-local to look at that word and 'know how to pronounce it', but would expect them to look at Ankeny and not be sure.
Okay...I'm following you now.
I would also say a significant number of people here on the east side have no clue Iowa has towns like Nevada and Madrid. Thus they pronounce it like the state and Spain city.
I think I have proof that I have totally lost interest in ISU football. Just got in from watering my reseeded lawn.
GO STATE! She actually had to leave at half because she needed to go do reading before the ND game. And she's attractive, but right now I just hope we become really good friends because she's really cool.
There are 25 tv screens here. 24 are playing the Nebraska game. And it's not like they are spread out either. For **** sake, put a couple others on other games.
PapaLew & I were talking about it. It's not so much that we LOST. It's that the score was tied at 17 with four minutes left in the game. 31-17 just BITES!

It was 24-17. That last touchdown was a tack on at the end. And I was actually ok giving up the touchdown to make it 24-17. I'd much rather have two and a half minutes to tie it up than have Iowa run the clock down to 4 seconds and then kick a 22 yard field goal to end it.
It is what it is. And what it is is zero run game from Iowa State.
