The Goofis is predicting an arctic blast for next week.

Already getting a little chilly compared to the super late fall. Windchill is 4 and regular temp supposed to drop to 12 tomorrow night. Should probably go for a weather test run.

The Hawaiified @cyrocksmypants will never make it through the winter. I'll be taking care of the orphaned Riley by this spring.

Anyone know where to donate plasma in the Ankeny area? Been thinking about it for a while. Need money for X-mas presents. Dang expensive children.

Maybe I'll donate THEIR plasma too!

Little rant coming on...

So apparently we missed our utilities (water, sewer etc.) payment a couple of months ago so we got a notice last week. An honest mistake IMO and after verifying everything I put a check in the mail the next day after getting the notice. Today we get a shut off notice that they sent before they could even process the damn money.

I suppose this may be karma for the time a couple of years ago that for some dumb reason I had our mortgage payment coming out twice in the month. Took me a little bit to figure out why I was forecasting us so low.

Wow, they don't mess around in NE Iowa do they.

This is why you need to make sure you have your ducks in a row or be in a transfer program where everything or pretty much everything transfers. Otherwise it can be wasted time and money. Thankfully I think there are a growing number of programs like this and it is not just with CCs. Back when we were in Wichita Emporia State and Wichita State came to an agreement for AERO E students to start at ESU and finish the last two years at WSU.

exactly. I thought about going home my first summer and taking credits (well, actually thought about this the summer prior to college too) but my advisor said that my hometown CC wouldn't transfer so I shouldn't waste my time and money. Ended up working and taking classes in Ames instead. Got 9 credits done in like 8 weeks of work. That was great and while it didn't allow me to graduate early, it did let me take 12 credits both semesters senior year and have a much easier time making a nice schedule.

we thought about doing cards the first year we were married but then it seemed weird to be just the two of us so we didn't. So I guess we gotta wait for a kid or something.

Spring of junior year at ISU they raised tuition again and it was appearing that I was going to be two classes short of graduating in four years. I decided not to add a minor or second major like I had been debating, took two classes in four weeks in June so I could graduate on time. There are times I debate if I should have just stuck it out with a double major or minor but I don't have anything that indicates it has been a detriment to my career.

My only problem with the community college route is I don't think it fits every major. Know a kid who was sold on the saving money part, so he spent two years at community college and then went to ISU for mechanical engineering and it took him three and a half years at ISU. Really didn't get much done towards his degree at community college other than electives, so not sure he really saved any money and it may have cost him more.
I actually know something about this.
There is some truth to this, but it really boils down to the student and the game plan. It also depends on the transfer agreement between the college and the university. If you get a student that comes in that can barely do algebra, you aren't getting them out of a community college in 2 years and into a university to finish in the following 2. There's going to be more time spent at either the college or the university.
If they are smart, they'll spend the time at the college (save $) and get themselves ready to transfer in at Junior level classes. If they just transfer after 2 years and they aren't finished with math/physics sequence, it's going to take more time. I've seen it before (and I'm sure I'll see it again).
The biggest issue I take is the concept of time being associated with a degree (2-year, 4-year) when it's rare that people finish in those time slots, especially in STEM fields.
