Random Thoughts 18: The Year of Fire

Dang! Some older lady yelled at me if I was warning people as I passed them on my bike today on the Ada Hayden path! Must of thought I was riding too fast as I passed her at least 6 times. For the record not only did I warn people "on your left/right/middle" I aslo slowed down and said thank you as I passed. Some people aren't happy unless they complain. Geez!! It is kinda hard to warn those that have their headphones/airpods in though. I about got taken out by a German Shepard on a 15" leash.

I laid into a walking girl one time who was wearing earbuds and wandered left of center and eventually turned left right in front of me after I called out LOUDLY repeatedly. She yelled at me so I stopped and responded that I had called out multiple times progressively louder and she needed to reduce her volume to be safe for everyone.

I rarely use earbuds on a trail (walking, never cycling), but if I do I just wear one and at a pretty low level.

It floors me that people will wear earbuds on a bike in traffic and will even use noise cancelling on them. Dude, you need to be aware, not isolated.

Why did you yell LOUDLY?? Left or tight may have been better. She may have thought you were telling her to turn it up.

Uuuuhhhhhh……….of course this is what you got, lol. It’s best to contact a realtor unless there have been several development pieces that have sold close to there.
My sisters want me to move out to Virginia and with the developments of the last 6 months I'm starting to feel it's not a bad idea to be close to some family.

Well the wife is bringing her mom over for supper tonight. I’m supposed to grill ribeyes/NY strips.

The conversations are always interesting. Last time she was here (2 weekends ago) she told my daughter how she saw her riding her bicycle on a tight rope. She was positive it happened. We now just try to change the subject and pull things back to reality.

Outside of UTIs my moms brain was always crisp and rational. That was nice.

It's hard. I spent time with my parents last week. My Mom (79) has dementia and lately talks more about deceased loved ones as if they're still alive. We've learned to just roll with it.

She commented that she wished her parents would call (they died 15+ years ago). I asked "why" and she said she didn't want them just dropping by the house and usually her Mom writes or calls when they go on trips.

Later we were watching the news and she said Jeriann Ritter still has her sun dress. I just asked how long she's had it. Mom replied it's been over a year.

MIL had what they call old age Parkinson’s. She bounces in and out of hallucinations. Many times she confused her dreams with reality I think.

Dementia is so difficult for everyone involved. You have to understand that you can't reason with the afflicted because their mind just doesn't work correctly anymore.

My mom got home and we were surveying where she had been we were in basement where we have a deep freezer. There was a box on top that I thought was just junk was full of food she had taken from freezer which now is no good. Over $100 worth of food easy.

Daughter should consider going out on the road with Red Panda.

Make sure that gets added to the police report. If they can only get her for breaking and entering and not the bags of stuff that she didn't quite take with her off the property they might be able to get her for vandalism or something for destroying a significant amount of food.

I second the make sure you are pushing for charges. If nothing else she will think twice about hitting your mother's house again. If it is ignored she might think there is no risk in doing it again.

Coworker of mine tried correcting his mother at first but she got quite agitated so he stopped. They drove all the way from Texas to Minnesota a couple of years before she died having essentially the same conversation over and over again but she was happy as a clam. That had to be tough for him but I was proud of him for putting her peace of mind before his own comfort on that trip.

My brother came up to work remotely from my mom's house so I could go to work. I was not leaving the house alone. Then in afternoon my dad came over and he and my brother installed all new door handles and deadbolt locks and made holes for said deadbolts so feel a bit better now if no one is home. Couldn't sleep last night. I should of immediately called 911 and kept her there till cops came but instead I panicked, did nothing like getting pictures or video on my phone and let her leave.
That sounds really good. Peace of mind. A couple of outside, hidden cameras would be nice too.

Keep in mind, she'd be stupid to come back to your mom's house with ill intent. On the other hand, she did it the first time. Still, I wouldn't worry about her too much more. Let the police work, but don't expect too much there.

You've done all you can. Keep in mind you do not need to be Jack Reacher here. This woman will likely get what's coming to here soon enough. Meantime, we've got your back!

Doesn’t matter what direction you say, they always seem to move/turn in that direction.

Last summer a guy walking on the right side of the path, after I loudly addressed my presence, didn’t do anything, I keep saying loudly I was there and still nothing. All of the sudden he just turned to his left and I came within a fraction of an inch of hitting him head on. I was able to literally jump my bike to the side. He was very apologetic but yeah the head phone issue is bad. I even play music on my cell phone kinda loud to help people know there is someone around.

Don’t get me started on the 3 wide walk&chat people.

My mom is going tomorrow to the police. She too ticked off to go up today. She found a couple of others bags of stuff hidden along the basement stairs. So she was probably here longer than I thought before I got here. Sure now she probably got away with some stuff.
