Anyone gotten a new water heater and softener lately? Local contractor I trust wants over 5 grand total to do both. Seemed high to me.

Maybe if each fixture was $2,000 each. I'm not a plumber so I have no idea what to charge for that. Maybe there's disposal fees for the old ones too.

Unless it was a big show from around the early to mid 00s, I have no idea who the big kid shows are. I would have probably thought it was a screw up or some golden can that gets you a free tour of Campbells soup.

Actually I would go on that. Though to be fair probably wouldn't be that much different then canning cheese sauces, been there done that.

What kind of water heater Electric or gas? They are kind of pricey though The water heater isn't a terrible DIY project. The softener I would be more skeptical of especially if it is a new install.

Can we ban Randy Pete from the BB press conferences? I'm listening to the coaches show tonight and the dumb F*cker asked TJ to name the teams best player for a team that prides itself on team defense and everything coordinated together it was a idiot question JW said he was correct in not answering it. Randy will do anything to stir the pot he hates it when ISU has success.

Gas.

Not a new install. Old one took a sh*t this weekend. Water heater has been pretty much on hospice for 6 months and I told him while he’s here might as well do them both.

I’m definitely a DIY guy but electrical beyond basic replacing light fixtures, outlets etc, and anything gas makes me nervous.

Not just the electric - you have to know how to sweat the pipes, too.

Power vent 50 gallon 2-3 years ago was 1500 installed. Ruud.

Water softener last year. Installed was just over a grand and it’s sized for a family.

Would guess 3000-3500 maybe if it’s a year out and reinstall.

You mean you would guess 3500ish now? The guy told me the prices just went up in particular for softeners, he wasn’t sure why.

Yeah, what I would guess now. Brands make a difference. Labor prices matter. I paid 1100 for my water heater but had to play plumber for half a day on a labor swap.

Makes sense. I think it was 2400 for heater and a little less than that for softener. I could probably do most of it myself and call a couple buddies to help bail me out but I don’t trust myself (or my buddies) and want it done right. I know the guy putting it in and who he works for is more expense in the area but they have a good rep. Another local company tried completely bone me a few years ago so didn’t even call them to get a bid because I don’t trust them at all.

I use the same guy for both now. I talked the guy into going self employed so I now get deals since he always wants help with business decisions and set ups.
