Agreed. LIke riding in an impressionist painting, very pretty. I'm fond of the little towns off the beaten path as well. We have usually stayed with families and I've never been disappointed. Incredibly hospitable as a whole..I don't think about it the rest of the year but when I'm on RAGBRAI, especially in the morning before it gets hot, I can't get over how beautiful Iowa is. The 'BRAI is awesome. I'm biking all of it this year and I'll be eating pie until I get sick.
I don't think that the Register or the host towns are being hurt by non-registered riders, but non-registered riders do use the porta a pots, add to an already congested traffic situation, etc. The limit on the tickets is not because the Register doesn't want more money, it is to try to control how big the ride gets. I always make everyone in my group register for RAGBRAI because it does cost money to put on RAGBRAI. I don't mind someone hopping on for a day, but there are several groups out there that have the mindset that since they are not camping in the campgrounds that it is okay to not register for the whole week.
The first riders will probably be rolling in much earlier than that, especially because it's a short mileage day, but it should really pick up around 10. It also depends on the weather. If it's really hot people will be earlier.Coming out of the stop at Perry, when do you think the first riders will begin to reach WDM (specifically 40th and grand)? 10 or 11 am?

I'd guess 5am but probably earlier.... with thousands of riders you get some that early & some a day late... along with everything in between... Most leave by 7am (not me though) to avoid heat but really they just miss the fun along the route....
Are you actually donating?ragbrai is going to get the money from 10,000 riders no matter what. I have no problem donating to them but why take a spot from a rider who can't go unless with ragbrai's truck for support. Too each his own, but ragbrai is getting their money either way and i am okay with the more bikers the merrier.
If WW Park is a designated campground, it does not appear they will let you in. See no. 10.I'm supposed to meet a group in Des Moines. Even though I don't have a registered support vehicle, will I still be able to get into the Water Works Park, set up a tent, and greet them as they arrive?
If they leave by 7 when does that put them there though?
