RAGBRAI 2018

Yup, always the last hot and humid weekend of July. Haven't run it since I was your age back in 1986. Amazing how that race has endured as a BIG deal run. It's an odd ball distance at seven miles and a total bear of a hilly ***** of a course.
I could be wrong but I thought they used to have a 7 mile race around and through Backbone, but of course that one wouldn't be hilly. ;)

All I can find reference to is a 4 mile trail race, though.

Just saw that the ending in Davenport on July 28th is also the day of the BIX 7 road race...

I think the last day of RAGBRAI is always the same day as the Bix 7. I believe it's the whole reason why Davenport didn't want anything to do with RAGBRAI for decades. Then someone wised up and realized "hey - if we actually allow this, more people may show up to the Bix Fest."

I am sure it is. My comment was more of that could be one big cluster ****. That being said I can't imagine the end point is much of an event on RAGBRAI.

When you have 8,000 dips trying to dip their tires in the river it can be something of a logistical problem - especially if there is already another big festival going on. Luckily Davenport is big enough to have a fighting chance. What was really a problem was ending in Sabula since there is like one way in and out of that place from the Iowa side of the river.

I'd like to ride the Jefferson to Ames and Ames to Newton legs but can't see how I'd work the transportation logistics. Might have a couple friends from the cities interested. Tried tagging a non-biking college classmate who still lives in the area but he's going to be on vacation. Was hoping to maybe "camp" at his place and bum a ride.

Well, pretty sure they will do some ride by the hospital and wave at the kids or something.

They come into IC on Gilbert Street and have said they will ride through downtown and what not before arriving at the city park. I would be shocked to see them not try and work in Kinnick to the festivities somehow but it would be an unnecessary detour for the wave. That being said these are hawk fans so enjoy the detour everyone!

Hmmm, seeing that flyboy is weighing in, how about you flying us back to Jefferson from Newton? :D

Are the dots on this state of Iowa map really off? In the 'Area Shown' small navy state of Iowa graphic. The route seems to be at least 30 miles off to the north. Just bugging me for some reason. Haha.

The Cyclone Loop around the field at Jack Trice Stadium is one of the coolest things ever for RAGBRAI.

Not riding, but we are hosting at least one team and various individuals at our house.

I'd like to ride the days bracketing Ames but can't work the logistics. Good buddy i went to college with, lives in Roland but is on vacation, of course, so I can't mooch a ride from him or a place to crash.
