Pretty sure I would have punched that passenger in the mouth, and then grabbed a beer and slid away.


Pretty sure verbaly chewing him out has faaaaaaar less severe consquences... and may earn more sympathy from the other travelers than socking him would have
 
I hope he doesn't get in to much trouble... pay for whatever the cost of deploying that slide would be, fair compensation whatever.

I could see people getting a bit to up tight about this
 
That is one situation where the Vulcan neck pinch would have come in handy. Just casually put your hand on his shoulder and...huh what happened? He just dropped to the floor?
 
That passenger should be the one getting arrested. What an a-hole. When you fly you follow the instructions of the flight crew. Period. End of discussion.

I wonder how you would feel if you were a passenger who's flight got delayed and who missed a meeting or other event because of the fallout from this guy's stunt?

I saw this story, and it got me to wondering why this hasn't happened more often. There are plenty of hotheads and idiots traveling the airways. I'm guessing the fear of severe retribution is a strong deterrent.

If he walks away with a slap on the wrist, it may (and probably will) encourage other idiots and hotheads to start acting out on planes more than they already do. The passenger should be not be let off either. They both behaved very badly.

Without condoning his actions, I'm surprised this type of thing doesn't happen more often. Those flight attendants deal with some real jerk day-in and day-out. I know its their job, but usually everyone on a flight is in a bad mood.

Oh, and it was pretty awesome how he went out....
 
I partially blame the airlines for choosing to put the passengers in bad moods. It's a lot of times the fastest and possibly cheapest way to fly but hassle and annoyance-free it is not.
 
Sounds like he snapped. Really bad thing to do, but I also hope that the passenger is charged with something.
 
The passenger might be an idiot, but it could be reflections of our society: apologizing means weakness. I've seen a lot of situation when people refuse to apologize although they were clearly wrong and that made them look like idiots. But sometimes I can understand the thought: if you say sorry, means you're guilty and someone can sue you (considering how litigious our society has become).

I hope the guy can have some peace, looks like he's been having extremely stressful events in his life. Plus when you deal with customers: customers are always right.
 
I knew there was some sort of law regarding passengers interactions with crew members on a flight. I would thing the passenger violated this law as well....

49 U.S.C.A. § 46504:

"An individual on an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States who, by assaulting or intimidating a flight crew member or flight attendant of the aircraft, interferes with the performance of the duties of the member or attendant or lessens the ability of the member or attendant to perform those duties, or attempts or conspires to do such an act, shall be fined under title 18, imprisoned for not more than 20 years, or both. However, if a dangerous weapon is used in assaulting or intimidating the member or attendant, the individual shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life."
 
I don't think you could pay me enough to be a flight attendant. I fly quite often for my job, and each trip offers a new observation of just how big of db's most people become when flying. Common courtesy doesn't exist. It's all about me, me, me.

From my perspective, it's pretty easy. a) You're on the airlines schedule, not your own. Show up early, wait patiently and make your schedule such that you've got cushion if late. b) Don't be a doucher. Be polite to those around you. Give your tram seat to someone who needs it. Don't ignore the instructions by the staff and then get mad because you get in trouble. Don't bring too big of a carry-on and then have a hissie because it doesn't fit above the seat. c) If you can't act with a little courtesy and patience, stay home.

Nothing like watching these pristine model-types trying to lift a huge bag into the overhead bin. Somebody inevitably has to help them stow the bag in the bin, and I've seen a couple of them decline help and get smacked hard by the bag trying to get the bag out of the bin because they aren't strong enough to control the bag. If you are able-bodied and you can't lift your bag into the overhead bin, your bag should probably be checked...

Isn't it a federal offense to disobey the flight crew? I think compliance of passengers is required by federal law. That guy who stood up should be arrested too.
