Yep, pretty much trying to save face now because he knows he was wrong. I expect him to say something early to the same effect to get the crowd off his back right away.
Too bad we are not the dumb hicks he expects. This won't work Herbie.

Sure, it's a compliment to our coach, but an obvious set of slights at our University. And still is, when he implies that the main reason Campbell won't be leaving is simply due to cost.I'm not sure I've ever seen so many people put off by a compliment of their coach. To top it off, someone then calls the guy giving the compliment "thin-skinned."
It’s because he was dead set 100% sure it was the other way. He was a **** about it too. I’m fine with him but some people will take more to forget.I'm not sure I've ever seen so many people put off by a compliment of their coach. Also, Kirk Hardcastle writes for the Mason City newspaper and graduated from ISU.Why would I hate on Kirk Haaland? That dude loves his Cyclones, good with numbers too.
The other KH is trash.

Reminds me of the movie Burn After Reading.Agreed. Would like to give him this bike to do it on.

I don't get he's 'back tracking'. I think it's more of "If he 'could' leave, he would". And instead uses the 'buyout' as his fall back. And, infers 'in time' (after the foreseeable future) he will leave.Herbie didn't think he'd ever be in Ames, Iowa so he's kissing ass ahead of time to try and weaken the backlash that he might incure.

Put Campbell’s face on Leo from Wolf of Wall Street with the saying “IM NOT ****** LEAVING”Need a big-ass sign at Gameday with a picture of Campbell saying "Hey Herbie, I'm still here!"
Depends on the situation but I don’t think I would automatically think they are gone.Do you really not think that's at least somewhat true? If you looked at say, Oregon St, and they had a new coach who looked like they were going to be really good. Would you think they were going to stay if OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc came calling? No. You wouldn't. No one in the world except for their own fanbase would think that. I mean ****, we're only a few years removed from Hoiberg leaving to go into an awful situation in the NBA.
My point is that he just says what everyone else outside of ISU thought, especially at that time. The infatuation with hating the guy for that is just weird. It's right up there with Iowa and Cowherd but Cowherd is trying to illicit that response.
I believe his comments weren't just for blue bloods, but rather really any other AD's looking for better coaches. I'd like to think we've elevated ourselves past the point of Oregon State by now (and some of that is recency bias, back then maybe it didn't appear so). I don't presently see a reason why we'd be outside the "average, non-blood P5" group now, but I felt like that's what he implied at the time. Again, he's a hot-take monger --, it's good to rub it in their faces when they're wrong, same with Cowherd.Do you really not think that's at least somewhat true? When Klatt and Herbstreit say that, I think that's just an easy excuse for ADs to take the heat off themselves. It might be true on their end, but that doesn't mean Campbell would take the job if offered anyway. That said, Herbstreit doesn't specifically mention a buyout; it might be that it would take an enormous salary/asst. coach salary pool on top of the buyout to make Campbell think about leaving. He's saying Matt won't leave because of the buyout. Mentions nothing about how much Matt loves it in Ames and his character to see a job to it's completion.

I think he still writes occasionally. Maybe not. I guess the point is that he's named Kirk H and he doesn't hate ISU. Maybe he can be the celebrity picker. He left a long time ago I thought.
