Quick look at Pitt

CBS has an article ranking the games and said ISU “may be one of the worst 6 seeds in tournament history”. Wow.

I saw that earlier and was going to post in the bracket discussion thread. Overall, the ranking is an OK read.

I think it'd be difficult to quantify, "worst seed in tournament history" on any seed line, trying to make comparisons over decades of games.

If someone wants to argue "overseed/underseeded" for a specific tournament, that's a bit more rational. (But also doesn't guarantee it's correct).

Last season, Colorado State was an example. I saw the 6 seed and knew Michigan was going to win that game (even though many thought U-M shouldn't have gotten invite or should've been First Four). CSU was more like an 8 seed. Plus game was in Indianapolis.

You could probably go by the point spreads that favor the lower seed (many, many better seeds have gone in as underdogs to the lower seed, and we're favored).

Their bigs didn't look that great. Really only one true big, #25, and he looked gassed and lost out there often. Their other bigs are stretch 4 types who don't live in the lane.

Federiko being injured probably hurts them a lot.

Shoon, Rob, and Tre could have big days inside, I think. Plus Lipsey and Holmes driving.
I thought most players on the court for both teams looked to be getting worn down really quickly last night. It's part of why I think both squads looked pretty sharp right out of the gate but about 10-12 minutes in and the play became sloppier and decisions were more rushed.

Hell, most of the second half MSU was just relying on their physicality and got really sloppy on both ends. Borderline dirty, defensively. I was shocked they didn't get called for more fouls.

That'd be one way to quantify.

I guess in general he might've been safer to say "in recent years" or something. I realize his main point was within context of the "best games" ranking -- it ranks low for being a bit uninspiring if you consider ISU an uncompelling 6 and the 11s being similar.

Giving benefit of doubt where I can :)

The truth is this team is an enigma. Sweep Baylor but get swept by Okie St. I would hate to try to analyze us by looking at stats and box scores.

I would think our chances in these first 2 games are similar to the first 2 last year. They were close so it will come down to a handful of key plays.

Baylor was one of the worst defenses ISU had seen in a long while and somehow ISU could get inside on them.

OSU would be a tough draw for ISU about any day.

The hope is ISU can things going in their direction in a tight 2nd half and close things out with their defense.

I guess you could say we’re not very watchable. His “analysis” only referred to offense. Maybe he meant least watchable 6 seed.

Can't really argue with that although the offense has been better this year.

It still can basically be a dog fight for ISU and when the dust settles you just check the score to see who's ahead at the end.

One fun one -
"A 19-13 team with a 0.500 conference record should not be a favorite over Pitt. I don't give a s$%t about what conference they're in. That's all hype from uninformed people and the media. And I don't use that NET and computer garbage that others swear by. I use my own eyes and see what their record is, which is the ultimate determining factor. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and, if we don't have Fede, they might be a 1 point favorite. It will be a similar game as the Pitt-MSU game...back and forth, lead changes, staying within 5 points for most of the game. If we are to win, we'll have to rebound better, play better defense as we did later in the MSU game, and make out FT's at a 77% clip like we did all season."

I might need to find this post so I can hit him with the Tom Hanks Forrest Gump waving gif after the game
