Arnaud passed for 1000 yards less this year than last - 2800 yds. for the season vs. 1800 this year. Seemed like he was "pass first" last year.
I have always liked the hire of Herman (Rice certainly missed him this year), but while it's obvious our defense improved leaps and bounds and has a clear direction for the upcoming years, the offense is still in flux.

The offense was more pass first last year (we were behind more last year)- where did that get us with AA at the helm? I think that supports AA being more apt as a run-first QB right now. I think Herman did a fair job transitioning what he would like to do (see Rice), to what he could do with the team this year.
First off, everybody needs to settle down. There isn't much doubt that AA is not the prototypical QB for Herman's system His ability to not execute some very easy throws pretty much proves it. Same for Tiller. But you know what? If you're given lemons, you make lemonade. If you're given oranges, you make orange juice. We still have a very capable QB who can really pound the rock, and there are a few very significant things which will improve his passing production next year:
#1. Another year in the system. Less thinking, more reacting. He will see things quicker.
#2 Improvement in the O-line speed. To this point, the direction of the O-line is one of the least talked about things on this board. When Rhoads first got here, our line was too bulky and slow for Herman's system. There wasn't enough time to slim them down without giving up strength for this season so they kept them where they were. Look for them to be lighter, have better footwork, and be much quicker next year.
3. Improvement in O-line execution. It has been said that Herman's blocking schemes are very complicated compared to other systems. Another year, better execution.
4. More team speed at the receiver position. We haven't exactly been stellar at creating seperation, and losing Money early in the season lost us the guy with the biggest playmaking potential. More speed and better route running makes more open receivers and the QB's job much easier. Giving Lenz and Williams another year in the system doesn't hurt either.
The staff has put game plans together which give us the best chance of winning. Our defense focuses on keeping plays in front of them and trying to create turnovers. This focus won the games last night and also in Lincoln. Our offense focuses on running the ball, sustaining drives, and eating clock to keep the defense off the field. And even inspite of our inability to put points on the board at times, they've still been successful in making things easier on our defense.
As we develop our personnel, the game plan will change. For now, I'm VERY happy with who we got, and the direction of where we're going.
Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. The next decade of Cyclone Football is going to be a fun one to watch and be a part of.

#2-#3 I would just say that the O-Line improved overall. Arnaud was given plenty of time to throw and ARob was given space to run which allowed him to use his quickness and speed.
#4 Team speed yes, but I would add physical. I have heard CPR say this and I agree 100%, "Right now our team has a bunch of possession receivers." Watch our WR's if they get jammed at the line, they do not break free, although the blocking has improved, I think it can get better. I think the blocking effort is head and shoulders above where it has been though.
WR would help with Arnaud some but the decision making ability needs some work as well as his comfort in the pocket. He is so nervous out there, seems that if something goes wrong he lets it affect his play for up to a few series' afterwards. Can this be fixed by coaching? I want to say this again but I absolutely love the way AA runs the ball and his leadership qualities.
Capello must have some talent, I believe he was the #1 QB out of Pennsylvania. PA is oozing fb talent.
Plenty of time to hotstove the QB's for next year. Great time in Tempe and a nice win for the Cyclones!

For those complaining about AA and thinking we cannot win with a QB like him, compare his numbers with Terrelle Pryor at Ohio State. Prior to their bowl games AA had 1799 yards passing (10 games), 57.4% completion percentage, 119.5 rating, 485 yards rushing (44.1 per game), 11 interceptions, 3 fumbles lost, 7 rushing TD's and 13 passing TD's. Pryor had 1828 yards passing (12 games), 55.8% compl. pct., 128.0 rating, 707 yards rushing (58.9/game), 10 interceptions, 3 fumbles lost, 7 TD's rushing, 16 TD's passing. Pryor is probably a better QB than AA, and is definitely much quicker. Also the supporting cast at Ohio State is much better.
I do believe that AA and Tiller are both the type of QB our coaching staff wants. CPR and Herman have both stated that it is important to have a strong running game to win, and after watching the bowl games I would agree. If you want to beat a team with a high octane offense you have a better chance if you keep their offense off the field. AA will improve next year, especially if we see improvements in our Wide Recievers.

Your point is? Ohio State won games with defense this year, not off the great production of Pryor.
hes a great, strong, runner, and can make some throws... i like his heart, but it doesnt seem to me that he reads the field very well... just look at the td, int ratio... not good. he can turn it around i believe, but will require a ton of mental improvement
