Property Access for Tree Removal

Little late to the discussion. Thought I’d share. In WDM, 8’ clearance above sidewalks/Trails. 14’ above street at curb line. The city is responsible for all trees in the ROW between sidewalk and street. There are hundreds of dead/dying ash trees in town. If they are a potential hazard to life or property (regardless of where the tree is), the owner is given notice to remove it. If they refuse the city has a contractor do it and send them the bill!

It's part of city code. Each city varies. In Ames, I believe all branches have to have 8 foot clearance over a sidewalk
Typically it's 8 feet of clearance from a sidewalk, and 16 feet of clearance from the street. This includes trees that are in the right of way and adjacent to your property. Iowa Code specifically says if a tree is dead in the right of way, it's the City's responsibility to remove.

We needed to have a boom truck get in our backyard to get some derecho trees out. It would have been way easier to come through the neighbors' driveway, but they wouldn't let us. They dont even mow or care for their property so I'm not sure what the rub was. The tree company even offered to cut down the scrub trees growing up through their portable basketball hoop in exchange.

They made it work somehow through my driveway, but it was kinda irritating.

Don't get me started on my realtor neighbor who has an open compost pile in her backyard or the neighbor down the street that burns their garbage in their backyard!!

If you're city, call that **** in. The fire department generally will chew out people who do stupid stuff with fire.

We live in north Ames. We put up a fence so we didn't have to see the rotting pile of compost. Plus no more raccoon crap, egg shells, or possums in our yard.

You know as well as I do that the fire is not a recreational or one to grill from as the smoke smell is not of wood. Enough smoke sometimes to make a hive of bees docile. Next time it happens, the FD will be getting a call. Makes you wonder why they don't have a house number on there house.

Good to know!

I used to like to hunt squirrels w/ BB or 22. My wife doesn't like squirrel, so as I am older now, live and let live!

Unless they get a little over populated. Then I've got the 5.56 or .223 to remedy the situation. Just kidding, sort of.
Yeah , but then you found out they are high in cholesterol.
