Prime to Insert Ads in Programming in January

I actually don't mind ads. I often get up and do stuff around the house during, so no skin off my back. I've even gone to accepting ads on HBO Max and some other services just to save a few bucks.
Ads seems to be the trend. Earlier this month Netflix got rid of its lower resolution $10 service and I switch to their $7 service with adds. Seems like this was inevitable with Amazon Prime as they also have ad supported FreeVee platform. Maybe this spells the end of the FreeVee platform?

Agree, I don't mind commercials. Gives me a chance to use restroom, grab a bite to eat or browse the internet.

I’ve watched probably a 1,000 hours of streaming this year and about 10 of those hours on Prime. They just don’t have the volume of stuff or the things that attract me.

Yeah I probably wouldn't have prime if I didn't have it already for the shopping side of it.

It's pretty pathetic that we're gonna end up with cable 2.0 again... but we all saw this coming, the suits gotta make more money than they did the year before.
Also I'd be less upset if these streaming services didn't blow their money on horrible movies with big name actors and then up their prices.
And if prime didn't spend like $50 million an episode on their lord of the rings show that was awful.

Amazon spent $200m on the Chris Pratt movie The Tomorrow War.

If you like older movies there are already a lot of totally free streaming services that have ads, a few that don't.

A few of them actually have equal or better selection of older movies than some of the pay services.

If you like critically acclaimed older movies, Kanopy has by far the best selection of any streaming service for free with no ads. You just need a library card.
What do you (and others) mean by "older"? 1940's and 50's? 60's and 70's? 90's?

No snark - I'm tired of today's cable and streaming networks as well, and I am interested in alternatives.

I’m really tired of streaming. Live tv isn’t all that attractive to me anymore and I’m not paying for all these subscriptions to watch a show or movie I’m interested in. Might eventually just drop tv all together and do something with my extra free time.

I’m also to the point that the shopping isn’t really worth it either though. It’s become a liquidator of Chinese junk. If you search for a specific product, you have to wade through a list of sponsored products to get to what you’re looking for. So with so many places having free shipping on orders over $50, I’m not sure why I’d renew when it comes due.

Me too, except for two things...sports and winter.

Yeah I've noticed that too. Bunch of no name random brands that and with thousands of (probably) fake reviews so basically the first page of products is sponsored.
It's nice getting something in a day or whatever and the free returns are nice (for now, its slowly becoming more annoying to return things, only free via Staples) but getting close to being not worth it...if the new fallout show sucks I'm canceling my subscription

Cable TV was originally supposed to be free of ads because we paid extra for it.
“Listen, this corner office isn’t going to pay for itself. I have a complex job of arranging programming and examining neilsen ratings. Somebody’s gonna have to pay. And fine customer, I’m giving you this option.”

It's not like they're reducing the price of their subscription service. So it's all pure profit from advertising. I have until next November to consider cancelling. Probably be used to it by then.

It's literally the only "pay" service I get.

On the positive side our condo assoc got Hotwire in place of Xfinity.

Gobs more channels and free TIVO. Hello TCM!!! Been recording lots of 40's 50s 60s 70s movies I never got to see. Anything with Academy awards or nominations gets consideration. Kind of nice to watch stuff where it's not wall to wall shooting (and missing) and fighting and no one gets hurt after 10 minutes of sounds effects enhanced punching and kicking.

Same. There is almost nothing that I have ever watched on Prime. I pay for Prime for the shipping.
