Pretty sure KJ has another year left on contract...

Just say'n

Unless I missed something (and I certainly might have) he was extended for 2 years in 2013. So he is up this year.

But, based on Jamie's health issues, unless he already had somebody ready to sign, I can't see Jackson not getting another 2 or more years. I don't think we'd be getting a different coach even if Pollard was healthy. But with his heart attack and surgery I'd expect any possibility of it to be gone. The only possible change I could see would be Travis Paulson. Which I'd be fine with but I don't expect. Despite certain "fans" deepest held desires, Pollard isn't going to be interviewing guys from a hospital bed just because we had a bad showing at NCAAs after a year spent in the top 10 (and still had a champion). Jackson is just now graduating his first real recruiting class and has the room built up to being sustainable with D1 caliber guys at every weight.

What makes you thinks this? Every article I can find says he received a contract extension through 2015.

But hey, if he has another year I hope he gets it done. No matter who the coach is I want to see us competitive and relevant again.

I am always confused when you talk about US and WE. Are you talking about Brands getting an extension or Jackson? Thanks for the clarification!

Is Schwab up this year? For some reason I don't see Panther Nation calling for his head after several years of failing to meet expectations at NCAAs. Maybe somebody could go focus their attention on the boards for the schools they support.

I think Judoka nailed it. IF, and that's a big if regardless of our finish at nationals, a change may have been a possibility, that possibility went out the window with JP's heart attack. He can't take this on from a hospital bed and he's not going to delegate it out to somebody else.

But attendance is way down with KJ. The home support at the Big 12 meet at Hilton was pathetic.

I remember the Iowa dual when Varner was a senior. No stupid curtain and a full house. Wish we could pack Hilton like that for every meet. Gotta perform better to fill the seats first.

People need to realize that we no longer live in the "Harold Nichols Era" of ISU wrestling. In fact, we haven't been there since HN retired. If KJ has failed according to that metric, so too did Bobby and Cael. Gibbons is the only one with a Nat'l Championship and he left coaching for the private sector.

Would a can't miss "once in generation" new coach fix that? Sure, and I'd support hiring one. Don't know who that is, though ... especially since we made that hire with Cael and he left.

With anyone else I currently see out there, we'd just be rolling the dice that they'll perform better than KJ.

Attendance is basically the same now as it was when Cael was competing.

There are many, many shades of grey between a once and a generation coach and the 15th-ish finishes that we are getting today. I'm a vocal critic but I'm not expecting a dynasty or even necessarily an NCAA title.

I don't know what this thread has to do with UNI wrestling but given that his prior two seasons were UNI's best in nearly 10 years I would disagree that they are failing to meet expectations. UNI is recruiting well, attendance is up, the fan base is energized. So, not a very witty retort.

BTW, you like to get cute about UNI but if I lived closer to Ames and were able I wouldn't even think about attending UNI meets.

Let me ask you a question: If we extend KJ say 5 years and we still do not crack the top 10 after those 5 years, will you still vote to keep KJ? At what point does he actually have to produce?

So we should just except being average at a sport ISU was once great at and be ok with never competing for a national title?
