Pre-Season AP Poll

it’s like people forget we were 3-9 in 2016 and jumped to 8-5 in 2017 and finished the year ranked. It’s not out of the realm of possibility for Nebraska to make a big jump in year one to year two. They have a good coach who is recruiting well and they made a lot of strides last year.

Most teams in Nebraska's position would need a "prove it" year before getting a preseason ranking. This is about the name on the jersey.

Bolded is key here.

They may very well have a nice season and deserve it in the end, but so far it's undeserved.

And I'm not against it--it would be hilarious if won the division with their style of football.

so was Campbells team 3 years ago, doesn't mean it warrants a top 25 preseason ranking. Or if it does the goalposts have moved. I know, I know "Nebraska has the brand name" but do they really? I guess it does hold water for those old AP voters, but I don't understand that much of a jump.
Unfortunately the prestigious programs always get favoritism come pre season poll time. The good thing is that the AP poll is meaningless anyways.

interesting list....my take:

ISU and Iowa are right where they should be.....will be a classic game, i am guessing. Really looking forward to this one.....

No Baylor? I don't understand that, as they should have at least gotten votes.

Nebraska? Seems a bit optimistic and reflects the name on the jersey from decades past.

Oh, and **** Iowa.

Should I believe that UCF will finish the season ranked? Because right now I don't.

That is true. The good thing though is the only ranking that matters in college football at any time is the playoff ranking.

West Virginia with votes and Baylor with none makes me o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Meh, I'm not surprised and I can see the argument. My question is if MSU & Wisconsin belong where they are? And that's an honest question.

Name on the front of the jersey having an effect there too.

Yeah it's all just part of the hype train and generating excitement for the season. All a part of it.

Let's hope for ISU to do this whole #Proveit thing on 8/31 by making sure we can see a legit talent gap come to fruition.

Speaking of which, and nothing against them as I have family ties to UNI etc., but do these players look like high school sophomores or is it just me?

Wisconsin has big questions at quarterback. The one guy they bring back looked terrible last year. They did land a big time recruit but you never know how that's going to play out, especially at QB.

Reading the espn article “how each top 25 team makes the playoffs” doesn’t mention a path to the playoffs just gave an overview of Iowa state lol. Still funny to see Iowa state in an article like that.

Bad QBing isn't new to Whisky. Their defense was leaky last year.

Even though I think this squad is better than the 21st best in the nation, I couldn’t be more proud. It’s been over 40 years since we were ranked in the first AP Poll. This is what happens when you hire a coach that puts together a heck of culture and gets everyone to buy in. Excited for this season and the future of ISU football.

Not buying Texas in the top 10 yet. Ehlinger is legit, but Oline, w/3 new starters, need to prove it first and the non-Ehlinger run game needs to take a big step forward. Defense has talent and good coaching, but 8 new starters make it hard to say it’s top 10. I’d put them 15 to 20.

I hate Nebraska as much as anyone but I don’t see anything wrong with them being ranked 24th. I’d put them right outside the top 25. Yes they were 4-8 but their last five games were definitely a different team.
They might very well end up as a top 25 team. Putting them there now is ridiculous. They were playing better at the end of the year, but they were still bad. They beat a 6-6 Minnesota, beat Bethune Cookman, lost to Ohio State, beat Illinois and a 7-5 Michigan State team, then lost to Iowa.
