Potential Transfers '14

How is it different?

Players play AAU in their offseasons now a lot more. Players commit much earlier. There is a lot more exposure for recruits a lot earlier. There are earlier official leagues and like I said they are year round. The game is less physical now. That's all a good start.

This guy gets it. You bring in the best available players and then let the coaching staff pick the best 7-8 for the rotation. If someone transfers because they aren't getting enough playing time, that means we have someone better ahead of them. With ISU becoming the premier destination for transfers, Fred will have first crack at plenty of talented, proved college players each year. Plus bringing in outside transfers each year really pushes the players to improve their own game, they aren't just competing for playing time with the guys currently on the roster, but also with every possible free agent transfer available.
That is near term thinking which isn't a bad thing. But there are certainly some guys I would love to have for 1 year, but not if it costs us Matt Thomas for 3 years (for example).

What they need is a graduate transfer to take Gibsons place and then a transfer who sits a year.
Or if they could get a HS player like Hill who got released from Marquette but that's probably not likely

Goodness, can the redshirt talk please stop?

Players at major D1 programs do not redshirt. If you are recruiting players that need a redshirt year to develop, then you are recruiting the wrong players.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I'd bet that no player will ever redshirt under CFH again. Unless there is an exceptional circumstance, CFH will never redshirt a high school recruit again. Ever.

Paul Shirley was red shirted in 99 and it wasn't because he was hurt. And he def could have helped that year.

The one and done rule has an impact as well. Maybe not for ISU but the overall college basketball landscape.

I saw a Zagsblog article about his return. It mentioned Josh Cunningham taking an unofficial visit to St. John's.

So I'm bored at work and I was doing some Twitter creeping and I found that Doc Sadler still follows Josh Cunningham. Probably doesn't mean anything but its interesting to see.

yeah, JC announced that he is picking his college next week. SJ's recently targeted him and now getting one final visit (which he is taking on his own) probably is a good sign for their chances.

He also pushed back his decision to take his last official to South Carolina. He was set to announce at his HS last friday but didn't realize the school would be closed as they were on spring break.
