Potential Transfers '14

Haven't seen anything to indicate that we're talking to Horford, but I'm sure there are several names that we don't know about.

Canty and Nick Faust seem to have some smoke, but I haven't really seen us associated with anyone else.

I almost feel bad for current rosters that may see minutes diminish with all the talent that we keep getting. Almost.

Yes this is the one thing I worry about....saw the hoks using this against us as well.

Saying that Hoiberg's system of transfers ruins chances for the high school recruits getting to play....don't really buy it as Niang, Morris, Thomas, and Custer have and will see significant playing time. Only person I worry about is SDW. I hope he gets the chance to play a lot next season.....

But with Dejean Jones, Hogue, Niang, McKay, Morris, Nader, Thomas, Custer, Edozie.....I just don't know.....

If he's good enough to get playing time, he'll get it. Right now Imo I don't think he is.

Any team capable of making a deep tourney run is going to have stiff competition for playing time. Is it any harder to play for us than it is Wisconsin, Baylor, Kentucky, San Diego State, etc? I would say it's not.

Whether you're competing against transfers, jucos, or 4-5 star HS kids, either way you have to earn playing time.

Ejim... 4 year starter
Niang... 4 year starter
Morris.... 4 year starter
Naz.... has started several games and will continue to get 20+ min/game throughout his career
Thomas.... Averaged 20 min/game as a true FR

Maybe, maybe not. But if he improves and becomes a high level Big 12 player he will play major minutes for two years. If he doesn't, what exactly are we talking about? Protecting the PT of a player not at the level of a high-major? That does not happen anywhere, at least by choice.

We lose BDJ after next year. That role is what SDW was recruited to play. If he is ready to be a Big 12 player, he will see major minutes and we will not go after a transfer. Only idiots think filling holes in your roster is unique to ISU.

SDW will not get major minutes unless he manages to see as big of an improvement in his game as Naz did this last offseason, and Naz's improvement is nearly unheard of in todays game.

You realize, assuming SDW plays a 2-3 combo, he will be competing with Long, Thomas, and Nader his JR. year, and that's not even including the 4-5 scholarships Hoiberg will have filled by then, and I'm sure at least 1 of those will be a 2-3 type player.

So you are saying if SDW develops and is good enough to see major minutes as a upperclassman, he will. If he does not develop, we will recruit a player to try and make certain we do have a athletic guard that can drive on the roster.
Wow, real breakthrough thought. How is this unique to ISU or any other player? If you are good, you will play.

Thomas, Naz, and Nader are far from proven players to the degree a redshirt freshman cannot pass.

I have seen nothing from SDW that makes me think he'll ever be a major contributor here.

Neat. What have you seen of SDW? Any other good practice tidbits you can share?

If he improves he will play and we will recruit accordingly. If he does not improve, he won't play. This whole recruiting over propaganda is the last great hope of the opposition.

Perhaps. But, I'm guessing that was your opinion of Naz as well after his freshman year. He is rangy and athletic so a person can just as easily state he has shown flashes to indicate that he could be a major contributor in the future.

The fact is there is no way to definitively know how much a player will improve between their first and second year of playing.
