Someone, (Corner 3 podcast?) mentioned ISU is in the running to set the NCAA record for number of games won improvement. Current record is 18 game improvement. If they go unbeaten in noncon, that's 12 wins.

Can they get 9 more wins somewhere?

Missouri is god awful, so that will be a win in late January. That just means 6 big 12 wins. I’d say that pretty likely.
 
The win improvement record is 19.

The games (W-L) improvement record is 17 1/2.

I wouldn't bet on 9 conference wins yet but I sure wouldn't bet against it.

I am asking only about major-conference teams, because I can imagine a minor-conference team like Prairie View A&M having a really bad season, recruiting a couple of good players, and winning a lot of games against mediocre competition before getting tossed in the first round of the NCAAs.

We may well be looking at the record-breaker right here. This team WILL make a deep run in the NCAAs, and end up with a lot of wins. This season's turnaround after the last 2-win season may well shatter whatever the record was before this.

If the record is 19, our chances of breaking it are extremely high.
 
I mentioned in another thread about win improvements for majors:

You had 19 more wins than the year before. Like 2-22 to 21-12. W/l record would be the spread like my previous example was 19 wins more but only 10 less losses. Played 9 more games. So subtract 4.5 off for more games and the w/l spread was14.5.
 
I mentioned this in another thread and a poster replied that we actually have to get to 24 wins to get the record, because they take into account the number of games on your schedule. We're playing more games this year so we have to win a few more to account for it

That is why the poster above is talking about two different marks. One is just number of wins difference and the other is the win/loss differential.
