Possible huge snow storm next week?

people getting mad at meteorologists is like getting mad at people picking winners of sports games. They take all the info they have available to them to make a pick, however, things dont always workout the way that they look. Being mad at a weatherman is pretty silly. I suggest you instead of sitting around mad they were off an inch, you invest that time into becoming a weatherman yourself since obviously you feel they do an poor job.

Any advice on the Highway 30 drive from CR to Ames for the game tonight?
Trying to decide if I should still go or not. Bought tickets a few weeks ago, don't really want to just not go.

Hey, I am in the same boat. I am no WxMan, but what FD says seems very probable - the drive back would be worse with the wind and some blowing snow.

I looked at a couple of the cameras on 30, and it seems like the road itself is clear.

Interested in a carpool? At least would have someone to push if end up in the ditch. I am going to start a quick thread on that there could be other CR folks that might go. Wife just confirmed she is out, going in late to work.

It is frustrating to get a bad forecast. For some of us it a wrong forecast can cost a lot of money and time. We trust these professionals to do a good job and the best they can do, but at times they let us down.

How did they get today wrong? Seems like they were right on. Very hard to tell where exactly the above/below 32 degrees line is going to be exactly with this storm. Also said the snow would come in 2 waves. Seems like they were very accurate. If it weren't for them, you might have just assumed today was going to be 40 and sunny.

So I drove from Iowa Falls, to Eagle Grove/Clarion area, and back again today, but most of the people in the office couldnt make it in? Thats ridiculous.

What time did you make the drive?

My brother took this picture at 9 AM looking out the living room window on the farm, NW of Clarion.

What's the roads like north of DSM to Ames? The additional snow and winds tonight have me up in the air on going to the game tonight. It's fine around DSM right now, we just got maybe 2" of wet heavy stuff but blowing snow at 10pm tonight is the big unknown right now

I just checked the cameras on 511ia.org and they look pretty good at the moment. What happens tonight is the wild card. That said, it's the interstate so it always gets high priority.

I-35 is currently "Normal Winter Driving Conditions" as of 1:40 pm from Ankeny to Ames.

Travel not advised north of Story City.

This link should stay up to date. Road conditions

Really. Not sure what anyone can ***** about. We have known it was going to snow today for about a week, which is pretty amazing in itself. And then the forecasts from yesterday were pretty much spot on. It's amazing people survived 100 years ago.

We don't typically take I35 though living in Grimes and one of the other guys I have tickets with lives closer to Granger so we take the back road up through Polk City and Slater as it's usually a longer drive to take 141 south to I80/35 to hit I35 north. Guess I will wait to see what the other 2 guys that I have tickets with think about going tonight. The county roads we typically take could be interesting with some blowing snow at night.

Just stop at the Kelly Crossroads and get hammered on the way back

Left Iowa Falls around 6:30, got back at 12:30. Drove right through that crap for 2 hours.

Someone pat this guy on the back or even give him a high five. He did what everyone said is dumb but made it and thinks everyone else is lazy now.
