Poor Hawksters - Schadenfreude

I would be good with a 2 year on and 2 year off agreement, but I just think this year would have been special with both teams being ranked so high. Might never happen again where both teams are ranked that high.

Honestly I think Kirk would have been ticked had they gotten ISU. Covid hit the hawkeyes since kids went home before Christmas. Getting us and then bowing out would have looked bad

I think it would have been a hell of a lot of fun and great for the state to get that kind of publicity as a whole. Normally I wouldn't want that, but since the game was cancelled last year, I think it would have been awesome. Plus I really wanted a shot at ISU this year.
The State, sure. But Nationally, where you are recruiting, probably not.

I would have loved to see them play this year. I think it would have been the best CyHawk game of all time. Would have been interesting to see if Iowa could have played and beaten Indiana in the last week if they could have gotten into a NY6 bowl against ISU.

Next year's game should be awesome too, but I feel like Iowa might have lost too many players off this team to compete with what ISU has returning.

What games did you see this year that made you think Iowa was actually any good? Their wins were against some really bad teams. The two teams they played that had a good offense were both losses.

I thought Iowa's defense was playing awesome by the end of the year and Petras actually improved as the year went on to where he wasn't a huge liability. Liability yes, but not as huge as the beginning of the year. I think it would have been a great game. 20-17 type of game.

I think a NY6 game would have been treated a lot differently and rightfully so.

But that's my point. Was Iowa's defense really that great, or we're the offenses they played abysmal? How would you really know since they didn't play anyone with any sort of real offense after NW?

Iowa knew they weren't getting a NY6 bowl and from all accounts were ready to go for the Music City before Mizzou pulled out.
Not playing the MC Bowl is unfortunate. Nashville would have been a great, drivable town to go to a bowl game with tons of extra curriculars to do.

I would add Clemson and Notre Dame to that list. Remember what Notre Dame is to ISU in the Camping World Bowl? A lot of the same players on both teams. Not that they couldn't beat those two, but to say they "would" is a little much IMO. Also, Iowa State can beat Oklahoma any time. They should've beaten them in Dallas. Alabama? Yeah, nobody is beating them.
We would have beat Notre Dame this year IMO

I’m finding it humorous that the Iowa fans on here really believe their team was any good And deserved their ranking. As another poster mentioned...Iowa wasn’t as good as West Virginia and I’d lay odds other lower Big 12 teams would beat the Hawks...like Baylor for example. Their ranking is a gross misjudgment by the voters giving Iowa the benefit of the doubt based on past history. If they actually watched this team they would realize how average they really were.

Purdue beat Iowa with their backup QB and their only good player (Moore) out. Purdue was garbage this year, and Iowa lost to them without Plummer and Moore. That was a terrible loss. I don't think anyone could sugar coat that loss. It happens.

Louisiana was definitely a good team. However, ISU was a mess that game and probably would've lost to plenty of teams that day. Week 1 games are strange as it is, let alone this year. To say ISU has been wobbly out of the gate is a big understatement the last three years - Iowa 2018, UNI 2019 and Louisiana 2020 have all been horrible performances by ISU. Hopefully they can figure that out.
