Ponder this…

I’ve said it in other threads, but OU and TT would be competing for conference championships if they were in any other conference besides the Big 12. That’s how stupid good this conference is.
I don't know quite how to quantify it, but it is arguably from top to bottom the toughest conference in the history of college basketball this year. I can't even think who would compare to it, even the Big East teams of the early 80's had no names at the bottom of the slate. Same with the ACC teams that everyone talks about from the 90's, never more than 4 or 5 teams deep.

"Never a night off" is just a stupid cliche for everyone else.

Is there a way every team can make it in? We all know the committee relies on NET rankings. If every team is above 68 and there are still spots open after AQ leagues, how do you keep any Big 12 team out? EVERY team has had a quad 1 win (May even be multiple), really no bad losses. Fran Fraschilla said that the worst Big 12 team is at least middle of the pack in any other conference.
Might have to let OU and TT make the conference championship game to make that possible, but that idea that it even is possible, is just insane.

I could see 9 if TT or OU finished out strong. Hard to imagine a set of circumstances where both would get in. I think they'd have to go 4-1 in the last five (or 3-2 with the best wins possible). Definitely not seeing that as a possibility for OU, and they have arguably the three toughest games left on their schedule.

TT schedule:
@WVU
@OU
TCU
@KU
OSU

OU schedule:
@UT
TT
@ISU
@KSU
TCU

I agree 100% that the B12 is loaded top to bottom. Today’s B12 standings has a pretty good separation with the strongest 3 at the top, the weakest 3 at the bottom and the rest in the middle. And the interesting thing for all the B12 team’s fans, after a week of two games played all that can be rearranged.

Fran said it last night. The bottom team of the Big 12 (which was Tech) would be mid-pack in any other conference.
Did Fran do our game last night? Just wondering, as I was forced to watch the game on mute out of town in a sports bar.

I mean if we aren’t going to win the conference tournament it would pretty cool if Tech did to get 9 teams in the tournament. I would say the same for OU but they are SEC-bound so screw them.

But if for some reason Tech wins out and finds themselves in a position to make it in with everyone else, then I could stomach OU winning the conference tournament somehow just to say the Big 12 got all 10 teams in. That would be fricking cool despite what you think about OU and Texas.

So OU and TX are in big 12 for just next season in basketball, too? And how crazy is the scheduling going to be with the 4 newbies making it a 14 team basketball conf. next season?

OU and Texas are here next year yes. But once they announced they were gone I don’t care if they lose every game. But if we had that small chance to get every team in the tournament I would stomach it.

Our fans need to keep in mind that every team in the Big 12 has lost 2 or 3 games at one point in time....Baylor started 0-3 in conference play, Kansas at one point had a 3 game losing streak, TCU (mostly because of injuries), has struggled as of late...this conference is so deep that anyone can beat anyone

We are 1 of two teams in the Big 12 who do not have a 3 game losing streak. Texas being the other.

Texas Tech is up to #47 on Torrvik.

They rank ahead of the following teams: Missouri, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, and Clemson.

If they got to 6-12 and rattled off a couple wins in KC they should be in the conversation for a tourney bid. However, I doubt the committee would look at them with that conference record.

I think it also shows just how important effort, motivation, and timing is in CBB, on a nightly basis. OU had been getting stomped, had lost 3 in a row and suddenly had a shot at a redeeming win vs Bama. They come out focused and excited to play a big game at home, and Bama comes in basically worried about their conference race and not this pseudo exhibition game. OU thumps them. Very similar to ISU at Mizzou.

Play that OU vs Bama game in round 1 of the NCAA tournament, do you think it would be different? LOL.

Secondly, it shows how big home court is in CBB. In 62 Big12 games, home team has won 42 times (67%). And of the 20 home losses, 9 of them belong to OU and TT.
I thought Mizzou was good then they got humiliated by Auburn

Texas Tech now has three wins in the league all over top 15 teams.

Oklahoma is now alone in last place at 2-10 and they beat the #1 team in the country. Not beat. Destroyed by 24.

This league is just stupid good.
I wish the Big 12 were less stupid! It's tiring, but exciting at the same time, every game.

And when OuT leaves, I don't see things changing. Add 3 already historically good teams. Plus UCF should improve with time and increased exposure in our conference.

Might have to let OU and TT make the conference championship game to make that possible, but that idea that it even is possible, is just insane.

I dislike the long haired kid from OU he always seems to have good plays against us. I agree any 2 teams could make the championship game in KC.

I think it fits for most conferences in familiarity at least year to year, coaches, and the general slog that can come around in February. Basically even bad teams can have their night and go crazy to knock off a top team.

BUT, right now the Big 12 is really just one team after another that is going to be a really rugged match up that will be exhausting. Even in years when it was real strong, TCU and Tech were generally teams that you needed to show up for to beat.
