I'm sure you said that last year and the year before that and the year before that...I think even you get where I'm going with that.
...That it isn't Jamie Pollard, but inherent difficulties for schools located in a state like Iowa, that also has a history of not investing in sports. Good thing that JP is working to change this.

Wow. I asked a simple question, yet received 3 personal attacks and no answers, so I will tell you what he has done for ISU.

He has promised a renovated stadium, only of which approximately 10% has been completed, the rest with no estimated date of completion.

How do you get that figure. The west side was redone last year with new suites. The East side is getting done this year with a new
enterance. There is also a new fence going up. Sure the endzone isnt bowled in yet but there has been a lot of cash raised to do these 2 projects. He also had to get plans in place for updating JTS and Hilton since the former AD had no vision and his idea of raising money was saving it and spending less.

He fired arguably one of the greatest coaches in history, to hire one of the worst, whom would jump ship after 2 years.
Yes most were tierd to see Dan go but in your 12th year you are 3 plays from going 0-12 a change needed to be made. The recuriting pipeline was drying up and he didnt build on his good years. He had a chance to put ISU on the top of the North but newer coaches past our program by. As for Chizik, he was a top asst coach in the country, coaches like that do get good jobs. He had the resume. How was JP to know the guy didnt know how to manage a team on game day.

He fired an above .500 basketball coach to hire one that has yet to have a season above .500.
He fired a coach that was getting ISU bad press. Before Mac was losing players Morgan was. Morgan left a mess that Mac had to clean up.

He lost an Iowa State coach who graduated from here to an out-of-state school... in wrestling!
This was all about Cael, and not ISU.

Baseball is still gone.
Do you just think you can start up a baseball program over night, when you have other things that need money first.
Continue to worship Jamie Pollard, I could care less; He will run this program into the ground
If the programs dont win at ISU and JP is gone soon he will leave the facalities in better shape than he found them and all the next AD will have to do is find the right coaches.

We should just keep reposting this quote until one of you trolls gets the point.

It is NOT my job to get baseball back. It is his; hence the title athletic director. Obviously it is not a necessity, but one of those things that seperates many great athletic programs from mediocre ones. It makes a little more sense than a retractable roof I would say...
Look at Iowa's baseball team, if anything it helps keep their athletic program mediocre. It can not even win in the horrible Big 10.

The renovation is virtually completed, what hasn't been started is the expansion. Something yourself and many like you don't talk about is that the entire project was originally projected to cost less than 50 million, we have already spent 30 million and have 55 million to go. Part of the reason for this is because of sky-rocketing construction prices and the project itself is much more extensive then originally planed. The other question I have is why is everyone so upset that the stadium isn't completed yet. JP said from the start that the earliest the stadium would be done is in 2010 and that is a "aggressive mark". At least he has a dream and something to drive for, that's allot better than JP's predecessor.

Am I the only person who remembers the fans screaming for Mac's head. I was one of the few that supported Mac and I don't blame Pollard. The fans demanded it, Pollard had to make a change and he got a coach that most fans were ecstatic to see come. As for Morgan, no one really screamed about it because no one cared about basketball under Morgan. Attendance was low, there was constantly nothing but negative buzz about the program.

He lost an Iowa State coach who graduated from here to an out-of-state school... in wrestling!

and he brought back a coach who graduated from here who as a coach has far more experience than Cael did when Cael got the job. Also, am I the only one that remembers the fire Cael thread earilier this season? How can you request that someone get fired and then get upset when he leaves?

Baseball is still gone.

Who cares about baseball. The reason I support JP is because he is trying to make changes. ISU was going no where when JP got here, he had two choices, either keep going no where or try to shake things up. JP chose the latter. Unfortunately, when you shake things up, sometimes things don't always go as planned and it may take longer for things to get back to normal than expected.

What JP has done is he has spent 30 million on renovations to JT. He has built a 8 million dollar practice facility and replaced the Hilton videoboard (not to mention the renovation of the Jacobson Bldg and parts of Hilton). He has dramatically improved the budget by over 15 million during his time as AD. (FYI- taking over Hilton to improve the budget was JP's idea, further it only increases the budget by 3-4 million.)

The last point I want to make is that with the JP improved budget, the athletic budget is around $45 million. He has spent close to that on facility improvements in the past 3 years. Anyone that knows anything about capital expenditures know that is hard to do.

First of all, cut the "put your money where your mouth is" comments because you do not know the state of my financial contributions to Iowa State nor are you in any position to judge them.

Second of all, your entire argument is based off the fact that he DID make some bad mistakes, but that we should forgive them. In that case, you contradict yourself with the reason for firing McCarney.

In any position of power, if a person made this many mistakes in such a short amount of time, they would be gone. I think its time that we as a fan base ask more for Iowa State as a whole and replace this man of empty promises and bad decisions.

I don't think he has made any mistakes. How's that? That includes the Chizik hiring.

I'm sure you said that last year and the year before that and the year before that...I think even you get where I'm going with that.
We always talk about next year and how me might be good. And I didn't ask for success over night, but I also wouldn't like to regress in every major sport either.
People like you are the reason that we will never win.

Are you having fun? Obviously trying to intentionally stir the pot (along with sinbad). Neither of you are Cyclone fans so keep on with your drivel if you like. I can see through your game.

This is pathetic, did you guys EVER meet with Bruce Vandevelde? TRUST ME, the man was treading water, barely floating. JP was a GREAT hire and has done a TON for ISU. Look at all the facilities!

Edit: AND look at ticket sales, or the number of ISU games that were on TV for a 2-10 team. COME ON.

Chizick wasn't a mistake on Pollard's part, Gene just didn't have the cajones to do it right in Ames.

Long live HCPR :jimlad:

I voted "don't like, under 30" but it's not like I wish the guy ill-will. I do support him, I just don't have much faith at this point.

Voted the same and feel the exact same way, the reason being the Cael Sanderson issue. I just get the impression that Jamie didn't work to hard to keep him around. Maybe that is not the case, as I don't have any inside information. I just don't see how you let the most decorated wrestler in NCAA history leave your program. Just my thoughts as of now.

You have no idea my loyalties to the ISU program. I paid out of state tuition with no scholorship to go there, bc I was raised on the place. I just don't want to accept or make excuses for losing anymore. Obviousely your patience hasn't run out, but it's embarassing to be an ISU fan anymore and it is time to be mad about it. The real fans want to win, not make excuses on how good we might perhaps possible be if this happens and that goes our way.
It's time to win, and if you can't see that, maybe you should take off your rose colored goggles and take a look at the rest of the Big 12 leave us in their wake.

a.) It's never embarassing to be an ISU fan

b.) We will get there and do it the right way.

c.) Still think you are a troll that wears black and gold on the weekend

1. It's not embarassing. I will still show up to 8 football games this fall with my face painted and sporting more Iowa State stuff than should be humanly possible. Not for a second will I be embarassed. Guess what, my patience running out isn't going to solve a thing. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Am I happy with the status of all the programs? Not even close. Am I still going to be there for every home sporting even I can be? You bet your ***. We've sucked pretty bad the last couple years, but when we finally achieve some sort of success, it's going to feel dang good for sticking it out.

2. Real fans? I'd say the real fans are the 40,000+ who showed up to freeze to death at the Missouri game last year. The real fans are the ones who follow the team wherever they may go. Guess what, Iowa State has a majority of "real" fans because there is rarely fair weather.

3. Wanna know why the Big XII is leaving us behind? Our last athletic director didn't have a vision for the future. He took care of there and then, instead of looking a few years down the road. Guess what, we're wayyyyy behind, and our efforts to try and move onward and upward have to first match others efforts, plus even more because of how far we are behind.

c.) Still think you are a troll that wears black and gold on the weekend

a) leave Iowa and see what it is like being an ISU fan.

b) how long is it going to take to "get there?" I'm 26, in my lifetime?

c) Just bc I don't agree with you doesn't make me an Iowa fan. Not agreeing with you is what these messages boards are for. If you want a bunch of same opinions start a new thread entitled, "diffrent ways we can love Jamie Pollard" and blow smoke over there. This is a thread about Jamie Pollard's decisions and actions. I'm not an Iowa fan, but I am a fan that wants to win and am sick of people making excuses for our losses.

This poll is worded terribly. I like JP just fine. I think he is a good fundraiser. However I think he has done a poor job hiring/firing coaches.

Basically I am disgusted by the results of our FB and BB programs since he was hired in 2005. It doesn't take a genius to understand win/loss records and results. The fact of the matter is, our programs took a nosedive after Pollard was hired.

Hopefully, he will get them on the right track, but its hard to be happy with the job he has done, considering that our programs have regressed under his leadership. However, Chizik may have saved him when he went to Auburn... I think we have the right man running our FB program now in Coach Rhoads!

This thread has shown me a few things:

Proof that we have a vocal minority.
Maybe people here believe that they're doing good by trashing our coaches and ADs... but look at the poll results... the majority (175 - 25 at the time I type this) support our AD. But reading these boards... i would think that the majority of people think we need to get rid of JP... and McD for that matter. So let's scare off a bunch of recruits as though our program is in a mess and our coaches aren't going to be here when they get on campus... when in reality it's just a a small group of people who talk louder than everyone else.

Now you have proof in numbers.

So it's one of two things:
1) You're right and 7 times as many as you are wrong.
2) Maybe you're the one who's wrong.

I don't think he has made any mistakes. How's that? That includes the Chizik hiring.

Well then, you simply cannot argue with that ridiculous level of thinking.

It starts with understanding win-loss records and how they relate to the success of the Athletic Department. If you can't grasp that, the rest is pretty much academic.
