Pollard Addresses MBB

JP has to defend the coaches of his program right up the second he fires them. Blame him for the hire but his hands are tied for the fire. ISU cannot afford to fire GMac until boosters come up with the money.

You two should form a letter to him and have him explain it to you. Ask every question you would like and request he answer every one. Post it here. Move your talk into action.

I would, but my tickets are under my buddies name and so are my donations since his company matches the donation.

I already know that this disqualifies me from having an opinion he cares about.

ISU losing and keeping Mac is cheaper than..

ISU winning and firing Mac.

We need to take it to the point where losing and keeping Mac is more expensive than firing him.

The only way to do that is to stop financially supporting the team. Nobody WANTS to do that. Im just afraid it is the only way.

OK, so players leaving is because they are part of the young and dumb generation.

But what about assistant coaches and staff leaving?

Get what exactly? Do you understand the numbers? What exactly do you get that those of us that see the program as a national leader in transfers, don't get? Please be very specific. I want numbers to support your position. I want logic, not this cryptic crap you put up. Give us exactly why we should be less than unhappy right now. Be specific.
Wondering if KG is going to respond here?

The audacity of JP to continue to blame anybody and anything but himself for the problems he creates shows no limits, and neither does his hypocricy. Now it's spoiled players and society. A stand up guy that shows some responsibility he is not. This last attempt to blame others shows how truly classless and clueless he has become, or maybe it's just pure arrogance based on some make believe world he has created for himself.

I figured you would find a way to not do it. Easy to ***** from there without the rebuttle of the accused.

What?
I will form a letter but it will do no good as he doesn't care about it. i will also get no response. That is why I'm not writing a letter not because I'm "afraid" of the rebuttal.
and what would the rebuttal be anyway?

"The kids are the reason all the transfers happen and Mac is a good guy from Iowa"

But you JP supporters that think he walks on water don't understand this. You JP supporters also don't understand that the man's ego is getting in the way of any success that he can possibly have. He refuses to admit a mistake and unfortunetly is going to go down because of it.

The not committed category, of course.

Please show me where you, or anyone else for that matter, posted concern about that hire when it happened because they were concerned that Sanderson was not committed to ISU.

I find it ridiculous that you blame an AD for a coach leaving because "he was not committed" when it was a nearly universally acclaimed hire of a coach that competed and coached for his entire career at the institution prior to the hire. I don't know what more he could have done to find a better recipe for commitment to the institution.

Perhaps you should loan Pollard your crystal ball.

I think you make some good points in your post, but you weaken your point by reaching for the absurd.

I totally agree that part of it is selfish spoiled players taught to think they're the cat's ***.

BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE JAMIE, this disgrace of a coach has a huge, huge role in it.

Greg McDermott will stay ISU's coach until it's cheaper to buy him out than run at Hilton with a certain # of fans in attendance. You want Greg gone? Quit going to the games. Greg McDermott has not hurt ISU's bottom line, and between Geoffry and Pollard, Pollard's job is to keep the bottom line in good shape, not be what half of this website wants him to be. Until Greg hurts the bottom line, he's here.

It's Pollard's job to make the Athletic Department profitable. Period. It's the coaches' job to win. Too many people on this website expect Pollard to win the games and then cuddle them to sleep. Not how it works.

That's pretty ******* weak. Actually it is about wins.

Anyone who buys this is being manipulated.

Does anybody remember how Ham was viewed at a hard working, blue collar kind of kid up until the point he left? The this generation is lazy and entitled didn't seem to be brought up about him before he transferred.

Does anyone remember Lucca? How does what is afflicting this nations entitled youth affect a kid from Germany? Are the kids in German just as screwed as us entitled American youth?

I am a huge JP supporter, but this letter is a load with the exception of the last line.

He is totally playing into all the donors stereotypes. Since all the donations come from older well established people they aren't going to be offended by this comment. Bottom line is every generation has thought the country is screwed because of the next generation.

Any of you over 40 y/o folks remember what your parents were saying about those hippies while you were growing up? Now there is a generation that did nothing but sit around singing and smoking pot. Country is screwed when those hippies are running it.

If the problem is a generational thing why is it that the football coaches are always talking about this guy or that guy being a bring your lunch pale kind of guy? Why aren't all sports effected by this crappy generation?

The easiest way psychologically to get people to avoid looking at a real problem is by playing into stereotypes. There have been studies done that show as soon as you take a room of 20 people and then put them in 2 arbitrary groups they will likely support their group members stances. By making this a generational thing it is playing on that psychological effect. The money (donors) are in an older group already so it's easy to make this younger group look like they don't work hard because they are going to back their group.

This is NOT equivalent to racism, but it is the same sociological manipulation used by racists. If you can make a group of people a scapegoat for your problems you don't have to deal with what they actually are. You're poor? Well that's because Race X controls all the money. You're basketball team sucks? Well that's because the generation of players are good for nothing sloths.

Only thing I agree with in this letter is the basketball program will be fixed one way or the other.

You know, as much as I would like to agree with this, and I know I will get blasted as a Mac supporter, the statement made by Hamilton's father (whine, whine whine - he yells at the kids then treats them like a friend - see definition of coach), and Colvin was a cancer, it was visible in his selfish style of play, his suspension for behavior and attitude) edifies the the statement made by Pollard. And quite possibly, DROB is gone because he was recruiting the wrong kind of players.

Because that situation needs to be dealt with as well, and also proves that wins and losses aren't necessarily the problem here. Additionally, if the recent trend in WBB continues, BF's not going to be having successful seasons for very long either.

To me, the letter did not point a finger at BF at all. The letter was addressing the transfer problem. To leave out WBB would have been ignoring part of the problem.

We don't have a transfer problem. We have a losing problem.

Teaching defeat without trying. Good lesson for kids.

He made those comments about not donating or being a season ticket holder in that response because the email that he was responding to specifically threatened ending financial support and no longer buying tickets. In addition it was a rude email. If you are concerned that he won't care because of your ticket situation you could tell him that I donate and buy tickets with my friend X and our seats are in location Y. I have some concerns and questions. I am concerned that this may not be the best way for me to support ISU athletics. Please help me to understand these issues.

If you send a respectful email like that, perhaps you would get a respectful response and some of your questions answered. What have you got to lose?

Or you could continue to ask the questions into the ether and assume responses for Pollard.

This is easy to do and why they do it. Its easier to point fingers than work to for understanding and truth.

sigh....whatever makes you sleep at night buddy.

The fact of the matter is, you are defending a man that can't admit his mistakes and thinks everyone else is dumber than him.

Teaching arrogance and making excuses. Good lesson for the kids.

thats about how i feel now, just smile because in the end gmac is still going to be our coach and we're still going to be mediocre.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME MEDIOCRE BASKETBALL CYCLONE FANS?
