I don't know if anyone else thinks this way, but wouldn't be nice if at least one website was politics-free? Regardless of where you stand politically, wouldn't it be nice to not have to see it, hear it, read it everywhere you go including CF? Given that the '08 campaign began in December '04 and there are any number of political sites dedicated to covering every utterance from a politician's mouth, would it be possible to keep CF just about hmm.... uh... SPORTS? I know that off-topic is for everything else, but I personally would prefer stupid movie quotes, greatest songs of the '80's etc. etc. Political threads inevitably devolve into us vs. them and namecalling. Can't we all just get along?

Instead of not allowing them or creating them, it is possible for people with no political interest to simply not read the political threads. It seems like an easier solution than creating a thread to say you don't like political threads.

I can understand your point. I've grown to the point where I hate reading about and listening to politics. Seems it's mostly fueled by side vs. side and little original thought.

And I'm not just referring to the public - but politicians too. Toss in money, scandals and personal agendas - you may as well watch a daytime TV show. At least then, you won't be angry when you're done. So for me, when it comes politics, I'll just "tune into the Cyclones". If I choose to read or listen to anything political and get upset - that's my problem.

As far as it belonging or not belonging on CF - I'll leave that one up to Jeremy. I can see both sides and will help in moderating it in whatever direction he decides to go.

If the status quo doesn't change, I think as long as these threads remain civil - they'll be just fine. And that's no different than any of the Cyclone related threads here.

I don't know if you read the last political thread but it was actually quite entertaining. No namecalling that was out of bounds, no us vs them. I really enjoyed the banter and thought that the whole thing was a nice testimony to the civility of CF members. We put ourselves out there D or R or don't care and had some fun conversation. cychotic made a good point about these types of threads, and i think that protocal was followed since the thread didn't deteriorate.

I understand that. I actually do have a lot of interest in politics. Just tired of seeing every thread remotely related to anything political turning into an endless exercize in name calling. As I noted earlier there are plenty of other sites to indulge that bent should one so desire.

Sort of like the whole CR vs CF vs CN thing. Just don't think it adds a lot of value to this site.

I think if anything, we need more.. the parties aren't all being properly represented.. If youre a republican or democrat, you feel right at home on these threads... but wouldnt it be nice for even one thread to start that fairly represented the communist party?? Just a thought... maybe as a compromise, we could leave things the way they are

I have to say that I strongly agree with URBCLONE on this issue. There are plenty of political forums where people can blather all they want about politics. This site is supposed to be about Cyclone sports. I don't see how threads like that serve any purpose on a sight like this other than to get people irritated.

Agreed...

I have yet to post in a political thread. With that said, Why can't people talk about what they want to. If politics bother you, don't open the thread. If it reads Iowa Politics, best thing for those against it, is to leave it alone.:wink0st:

Somtimes politics and sports overlap. I don't have a problem discussing them. I think it is inportant. I also think it's important to be respectful to each other regardless of what topic is being discussed. If you crack down on anything make it impoliteness.

I won't delete posts just because I don't happen to like them. I love this site. I was merely hoping that the site would be more about Cyclone sports than having a bunch of political discussions.

You don't have to like US Soccer, Bob Sanders, Bar selection, BRR Ride, Prince, etc, etc, etc, but saying that there is no need for a thread because you don't like the topic is pretty narrow-minded.

You prefer the 80s song thread while I haven't looked at it once. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be there just because I don't like it.

People are passionate about different things and this site gives them an outlet to discuss things outside of Cyclone sports. I think it's great that people can talk about such a diverse number of topics without name calling, etc.

Given the level of maturity exhibited by some members of this online community, it is only a question of time until one of these political threads erupts into a full-blown website jihad. You can count on it!

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

It took a degree in Political Science for me to reailze that I hate politics.

It took working in a law firm to realize that I don't want to be a lawyer.

It took the aforementioned realizations to realize that I need a time machine so I can go back in time and slap myself silly.
