Point Guard Next Season

PG is one of my concerns for next season. I love Haliburton but question his quickness, ability to penetrate and ball handling to be the primary point guard. Nixon seems like more of an off guard. Wiggington at this point in his career is not a very good decision maker but has the tools to be a PG.

I think not having a true point guard hurt this team as well. In just watching NCAA tourney games, most good teams have a PG that can defend, get to the hoop and distribute. Babb had a great assist to turnover ratio but rarely penetrated to either score or get shooters open.

I think Tre Jackson is a pure PG but will not be ready for a large number of minutes next year.

They must be going off hype because it's not going to happen. Neither THT or Wigginton have the stats (FG% and A/T ratio) that a shooting guard needs to get drafted. I like THT's chances of getting drafted in round 2 better than Wigginton's, but do you leave early for the 2nd round?

They are drafting someone like THT on what they think he will be in a couple of years not what he is now.

Hopefully the NBA tells him he would benefit from another year in school working on his game.

If you can get drafted in the first round isn't that guaranteed money? If so that is likely life changing money so you go.

The 22nd pick in last years draft got a 2 year guaranteed contract worth about $4.3 mil.

I love tyresse but man hopefully in the offseason he gets a more aggressive attitude. Meaning when he gets in the lane with ease take it to the rim or do a tear drop, enough with the always kicking it out. Make the easy play!

Tyrese had a great freshman season but he will have to work hard in the off season to develop his offensive game. The scouting report on him now is that he is not a threat to shoot unless it's a totally unguarded three.

We had a lot these concerns about Monte before his sophomore year. I think and want it to be Haliburton. If he put's 10-15 lbs on his frame, works on a 10' and in floater, and quickens up his shot; I think he'll be amaze-balls.

His shot/release is quick on his 3-pointers, the problem is his release point. I haven't seen him shoot a jumper off the dribble, just his long-distance set shot. Not sure he can change his mechanics at this point to develop a higher release point, but that set shot's not going to work as well in the NBA with taller, quicker defenders.

I thought he got better at this as the season went on.

Either way it's clear he had habits of understanding that there are other players on the floor which is a great place to start.

You have Halliburton, Wigg, THT and then another dude at PG? That's a really small lineup.

Haliburton is a natural point guard and should be the guy for the next 3 years. If he puts on a little more weight and gets a little more confidence attacking the basket he'll be an All Big 12 player next year.

As an 18 year old, no. As a 21 year old, probably.

I have no doubt Haliburton will start and be one of our PG's. Wigginton will be co-PG if he returns. Otherwise it will be Nixon.

I think we will see a different type of offense that isn't so heavy on pick & roll and dribble drive. Haliburton might not have the top-end speed and quickness of other PG's, but other PG's don't have Haliburton's height and wingspan. Plus Haliburton's vision/passing is elite.

I think we get away from a 1-4 offense and see more motion and screening in our half court offense. The common complaint I heard all season from Prohm was lack of body movement, the ball sticking and lack of court reversal.

IMO the 1-4 offense only works if you have elite 3 point shooters. When we had Naz, Matt, Monte, Georges we shot over 40% as a team. This year we shot 35% as a team. The 1-4 is most effective when all 4 perimeter players can make 3 point shots. Otherwise a 2nd defender can drop off and prevent post offense or dribble drives.
