Point Guard Next Season

As long as Prohm is coach, we will start 2 PG's. Halliburton would have to be hurt to not start. He was tentative this season, but IMO that was more him deferring to the seniors Babb and Shayok vs. a flaw in his game. Next year he will be a team leader and Prohm's calming influence on the floor.

If Wigginton comes back, no way he doesn't start. Prohm is very loyal and I think really appreciates Wigginton's attitude this season in being 6th man. There are some gaps in Wigginton's game, but he is a difference maker offensively.

That doesn't mean Nixon is the odd man out. He will play 25-30mpg off the bench.

In today's game, PG is a position on defense. A PG needs to put pressure on the opposing ball handler- preventing dribble penetration and making entry passes tough. A PG is the guy to get the opponents offense out of rhythm.

The nice thing about Halliburton's height is he can play 1 to 3 offensively and defensively.

Wigginton is a combo guard who will play more 1 in the NBA but is more of a 2 in college. He can improve his skills at the 1 while still playing the 2. Halliburton is the clear PG for next year.

This is why I don't want Wigginton as the PG. I'm worried that his NBA aspirations will trump what is best for the team. When things get tough, he's going to go hero ball instead of running an offense.

Furthermore, if we start to get offensive production from the interior like we all hope and expect, having a PG that can distribute is much more important than a PG that can drive.
Can't believe I'm saying this but if he doesn't improve to the point where he can make great decisions of when to pass, who to pass to, when to drive and when to shoot the 3, I think he'd be better served transferring to a team who will put him at point and let him do what he wants. I wholeheartedly hope he comes back an improved player but if it's like this year it almost seems more like a distraction.

Haliburton or Tre Jackson
I think it will be Nixon. Haliburton will get spot minutes. Similar to this year. Need somebody who can create off the bounce. Have not seen that yet from Haliburton. He is a great passer and a good wide open 3 point shooter. Love the kid, think he is a year away.

Haliburton has the IQ, assist to turnover ratio, and cool even temperament to be a great point guard. Wiggington and THT have poor shot selection, look to score too much, and lack consistency.
I believe THT will be a great player, but he is not ready to lead a team.

Where are they going? They are not ready for the NBA.
One question they will probably consider - will they develop faster returning to college or playing in the nba G League? This is pure speculation, but their desire to get to the nba may exceed their interest in a degree.
Hope they return, neither one is anywhere near nba ready.

ESPN has THT going 18th in the draft and CBS has him going 22nd. I think his feedback from the NBA will have a big impact on his decision.
If you can get drafted in the first round isn't that guaranteed money? If so that is likely life changing money so you go.

They must be going off hype because it's not going to happen. Neither THT or Wigginton have the stats (FG% and A/T ratio) that a shooting guard needs to get drafted. I like THT's chances of getting drafted in round 2 better than Wigginton's, but do you leave early for the 2nd round?

Both also struggle at finishing at the hoop, and playing through contact. The turnovers (poor decisions) they make would have to be a big issue with the NBA.

At their age you would think staying in college and getting drafted in the first round would be the goal.

We had a lot these concerns about Monte before his sophomore year. I think and want it to be Haliburton. If he put's 10-15 lbs on his frame, works on a 10' and in floater, and quickens up his shot; I think he'll be amaze-balls.

Also, I hope we have Wigginton and THT back, but I also hope it's the version that takes smart shots and doesn't force things in each case.
