Playing the underclassmen

You can't really count just 4 starters on the D-line. He will always play 8, to keep them fresh. Unlike McCarney, who rode the 4 starters the whole way.

I love that Chizik is playing the younger guys. He is trying to build this program in his image, and playing the guys he brought in (and committed to him) the best way for him to do that.

I don't think he is blindly playing all the young guys, but I think there is a definite "tie goes to the younger/more talented/less experienced guy" thought process right now.

Next time you watch a game, check out how many total guys rotate in and out. It is mind boggling. I think ISU has played the most players in the Big 12 this year. I'm always looking at the media guide to figure out who is who when they take the field.

Of the 21 guys on the team with 10+ tackles, only 5 are seniors. The entire offense is coming back next season except for RJ and Dedrick. I did some research and ISU will have the most returning starters in the Big 12 based on the depth charts for this week. Man I need to get some friends!!!

We all know that Singleton has been terrible this season, but if you remember it was Bell that blew the coverage in overtime of the UNLV game. If we are going to have bad dbacks no matter what, we mine as well be getting younger guys some experience.

Ok... 6'1" corners aren't exactly a falling out of trees... sorry, I knew he was tall for a corner. Most are ranging around 5'8" or 5'9". And with Bell getting beat late in that game, THAT WAS AN AMAZING PASS and he hadn't touched the field hardly at all the whole dang season. He should be playing more... You can't judge a guy on one time he was beat by an OUTSTANDING pass...

Bell was step for step with that guy, his hand missed the ball by about 3 inches. It was literally the perfect fade pass. No one on our team could have defended that play better.

And WE can't judge a kid based on what he's done in practices, in offseasons, in the weightroom, in the classroom .... because as far as i know, only the COACHES have that much objective information on their players.

I know I will get rheemed by everyone for this but does it seem like Chizik is intentionally using the underclassmen more as the season goes on???

You thought that maybe he was accidentally playing the underclassmen more?

Reamed, yes, obviously the underclassmen are better. That's pretty clear, and I wonder why you would have a problem with it. With the exception of Bibbs, who is hurt, the good thing being that Bameron can use the experience.

Unlike McCarney, who only had the 4 starters to play.

There. Fixed that for ya. Mac never managed to develop any depth at DT. He kept trying, and losing guys. Stephon Dale, the other kid who transferred to Baylor, Alburtis and Johnson redshirted their freshman year...

Thank you. I would imagine there is a reason he is not playing, especially since he has another year left. Nothing against the kid, maybe he's not as good as we hyped him up to be. I was't super impressed with him in coverage last season either.

The obvious question: will that translate to wins?

Most of the other teams in Big 12 have 6 ft corners.

I thought two of our best players on defense coming into this year were Singleton and Bell, yet neither has gotten much playing time. The two freshman are playing ahead of them. Also, I know Bibbs was/is hurt and now Bell is getting the start over him. On offense Brandon Johnson is getting no reps at center even though he started every game last year. Ruempolhammer is seeing quality minutes ahead of Weir and Tate. Carter Bykowski even got the start against aTm when i hadn't even seen him play before that. I understand that he will want to get those guys more reps as the season goes on, but they are getting a good chunk of the playing time. I think it is a good thing, so long as you don't lose the leaders that are seniors. And maybe the younger guys are just better, I don't know---What does everyone else think???

I think you meant reamed.

Sorry, but that is a weak argument. That is right with the old coaches are always right line of logic. In which case, it's time to close this site down, as there isn't really a purpose for it anymore.

That's aside from the fact that we had reports that Allen was in the doghouse long ago, before the season even started, and since we don't see practice, we can't really know what's going on.

Your position seems to be that we should distrustthe coaches, second guess them constantly, which somehow doesn't seem quite right to me.

Besides which, if both Leonard Johnson and Ter'ran Benton look good, what in the world is anyone complaining about?!!!

I agree about Bell and Hamilton. If Bell wasn't going to play corner we should have used him at safety this year at least.

I agree about Bell and Hamilton. If Bell wasn't going to play, the coaches know why, which probably meant he wouldn't ahave been on the field playing safety, either.

There. Fixed that for ya. Maybe Allen will switch to safety in the Spring, when he has a chance to learn the position. After all, Devin McDowell and Kennard Banks have been hurt, which hardly meant that they could switch more than Zac Sandxig (whom we haven't really seen) to safety.

Why couldn't Bell or McDowell play safety instead of Hunley? He is not a good football player. Almost as bad as Caleb Berg was. After watching Cyclone Replay today it was amazing how many times Hunley got burned. Maybe Bell and McDowell would look that bad, but I doubt it.
