Phrases that Annoy You

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet, but one that annoys me a lot is "taking my talents to ..." Lebron was mocked endlessly for saying it, and yet now it's said all the time.

CycloneJames = LebronJames? That you man? :jimlad:

Oh 100% of the time I use it is is. Granted this was closer to decision day or whatever the **** that dog and pony show was called.

One game at a time, One day at a time, Over the hill, Awesome, Epic, "Life isn't measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away" or any other stupid cliche motivational poster.

YOLO....end thread

I had a facebook friend (speaking of dumb phrases; how many facebook "friends" would you actually consider friends prior to facebook's existence?) who always, always ends her status updates with "ILUL". I had no idea what the **** she meant by this, so I asked her, and apparently it means "I Love U (sic) Lots". Suffice it to say, we are no longer "friends".

Another one that bugs me is the overuse of "epic".

Just sayin' has to be the one that bothers me the most.

Also, there are a lot of phrases in this thread that people just start saying because either their parents or people they spend a lot of time around in a social setting say. There really isn't much correlation with intelligence. A point could be made about how some people think more about what they say, but that isn't really intelligence per se.

Also the easiest fix for people that say 'irregardless' that have trouble switching to just saying some variation of 'regardless of' is to start using irrespective. That way they don't have to change sentence structure mid thought.

I just moved down to Houston in January, didn't take long to find out that everyone down here uses the phrase "fixin' to" instead of "going to" really annoys me.

"Take a leak," "take a dump," or "take a crap." Almost every time I hear one of these phrases, it is a TMI situation, and certainly every time I hear one of them, it is factually inaccurate. If anything, they are *leaving* the crap, not taking it.

My dad would always say "where you taking it to?"

I was in the navy with a guy that used to say "fiddin' ta"

People who harp on people for saying "I could care less" really annoy me. I got into it on the mega-thread. I still maintain that "I could care less" is more correct, taking into account that "could care" means I might or might not be able to care which fits with the spirit of the expression (I care so little about this that I'm not even going to think about it, therefore I'm not sure if I could or could not care less). But I don't want to get into it again.

Asided from that "I'm not gonna lie" is the most annoying phrase to me. Maybe I'm just naive, but my default assumption is that you aren't lying to me unless you are a known liar. If you are a known liar, I'm not going to believe you when you say you aren't lying.

Buzzword Bingo. Greatest commercial ever! I'm sure many of you sit in meetings and fight every urge to jump up and slug people who, rather than "play house" they essentially "play office". The squirly people who really have nothing to offer except to sound-like they belong in the professional space, the consultants, the brown-nosers,etc. I have complete and utter disdain for all of them.

I have a friend who will get red in the face anytime he hears that somebody "gave 110%." I sometimes poke the bear.

I also don't like when people use "literally" about things that are not literal at all. Or "ironically" - it is only referencing something ironic about 20% of the time.
