Phillip Bates

and i about gurantee that bates doesnt have the heart that arnaud does..

Bates will not beat out Arnaud, ISU will be fine after Meyer leaves with Arnuad.

Claims like this are just foolish and only show ignorance and bias. None of us know what QB will be better until they both battle each other for the position. Guys that played with Bates will say he's better. Guys that played with Arnaud will say he's better. Shocking.

Personally I'd like to see Arnaud be the QB of the future here, because he's an Ames kid going to an Ames college. Yet I want Bates to be on the field too in some capacity, because he's an excellent athlete.

Arnaud vs. Bates. This is a good problem to have. Celebrate the winner and hopefully the other is willing to move to a new position just to get on the field. That is of course, if we can keep Bates.

Part of Meyer's problems this year were due to the poor play of our O-Line. There were so many times this year that Meyer was trying to find a receiver while running at top speed trying to avoid 2 defensive players who blew right through our line. Better pass protection will be a big help.

Definitely. The only problem is that unless GC can grab some gems in this recruiting class that can play NOW, Meyer will be running for his lift next season too...

One thing Meyer really struggled with was following his reads and looking off receivers. There were many balls knocked down or intercepted because Meyer locked in on receiver. That being said, I'd be shocked if he's not the starter for his senior campaign...

Meyer had time to look at a receiver other than the first option?:eek4wd:

Not from what I hear from someone who actually watched Arnaud at ISU practices. I heard nothing but great things about Arnaud.

I think eveyone is too far ahead on this Meyer/Bates/Arnaud debate. We still don't know if Coach wants to go with a dual threat or pro style quarterback in his system, or what offensive style system he will use for that matter. That could completely change the landscape for the quaterbacks...

I really like Austin Arnaud and Phillip Bates, both want to be the next QB, but only one will start after Bret Meyer is finished next year. It's nice to have a little depth at QB. Regarding Arnaud. Who recruited and convinced him knew how to develop him into a great QB? Todd Fitch. Same for Phillip Bates. Bates told his dad (a former Husker) he was ready to committ to ISU while they were driving back to Omaha from a camp in Iowa City. He was thoroughly impressed with Fitch and his track record.

Based on comments Fitch made in the media recently, he feels he has a very good chance of being the QB coach on Chiziks' staff. If he isn't, Bates may be gone...but not to Nebraska. It is my understanding NU wanted him as a DB. Fitch has a great resume and has worked with some great QB's and not just at ISU. Don't be surprised if Todd Fitch is the only guy Chizik keeps.
