Peyton Manning out of Indy

Expected but still sad. I love it when guys play at the same place their entire careers

They'll probably regret going with a backup or rookie vs. the money it would have cost them to keep Manning until a replacement was ready.

Smart move by the Colts.... and dumb move by Peyton to keep playing IMO.

Peyton can do whatever he wants, it's his decision, but life is WAY more important than football. I hope he doesn't seriously get injured and ruin the rest of his life.

The Colts had no other choice IMO. He's just way too expensive for his age and his health situation.

Not surprising, especially with the way Irsay has been hinting and hedging about this the last few months. I'd love to see him elevate another team to contender status and watch the Colts go back to bottom dweller.

He has been medically cleared to play football - the health of his neck is not much of a concern. If professional wrestlers can continue wrestling with fused vertebrae I'm sure Peyton will be just fine.

It's all a question of whether he can regenerate the strength in his triceps. If he can do so he'll be a serviceable QB (at minimum) for at least another 3 years.

The leaked video of him practicing looked pretty good. Granted it was only a couple passes.

Ok... but it's not that easy. Put yourself in the shoes of the GM. How much are you willing to spend on Peyton Manning right now? Because if you give him his $28 million bonus here in the next week that he's due if he's on the roster, plus what he's still getting per year in salary on top of that.... in addition to the money it's going to cost for your 1st pick of the draft... you won't have anything left to get anyone else to build that team with.

You didn't make that argument. You said Peyton is dumb not to hang it up.

1. What he said:

2. I'm not arguing it was dumb for Indy to let Peyton go - quite the opposite. It's clearly Luck's job now.

3. If I'm a team that is perhaps just one QB away from being a legitimate contender, such as Seattle, New York Jets, Kansas City, or Miami (if they somehow fail at bringing in Matt Flynn), I'm probably spending what it takes to bring in a guy like Peyton Manning, especially if the videos of Manning throwing online are legit.

I think Peyton is dumb for not hanging it up... but he's not going to listen to me now is he? So it doesn't really matter what my opinion on that is.

I also said the Colts were smart to let him go. I stand by that. Lots of people thought the Packers were stupid to get rid of Favre too. Or the Niners when they go rid of Montana for Steve Young. Sometimes you just have to move on.

I'm a Cardinals baseball fan and I was thrilled when I found out that the Cardinals didn't offer Pujols a 10 year deal too.

Come on Broncos! We only have 1 QB on the roster anyway and plenty of cap space.
