Petras gets blasted by Barstool

After awhile, you just got to feel sorry for the kid and realize it is all on the coaches now. The fact that nepotism has delivered that cluster**** is pathetic. Will no one stand up to KF? Nepotism with a huge side helping of racism is such a bad look. I would think their fans might give a **** and insist on change.
People are standing up to KF. Unfortunately, the ones whose opinion matters the most won't.

My brother is a big Hawk fan and he said the Hawks still ain't playing their best QB. Keep an eye out for Joe Labas.

Picture says it all!!

With the history of all the douchey players Iowa has had throughout it's recent history, this is the first time I honestly feel bad for one. Petras handles everything well and is just stuck in a terrible position, I feel for the kid.

Now this guy you linked, his face looks like someone we could mock endlessly if he was in this situation.

I could see an Auburn type school offer Phil Parker 1.5-2 million to come run their defense next year. If that happens Iowa is screwed
Seems like the only way Parker takes $2M to coach at Auburn is if Kirk is named Auburn's next coach.

They seem pretty joined at the hip- would think Parker has had plenty of opportunities to leave over last decade.

You're probably right, but he could get fed up with Kirk for standing by his unqualified OC if they keep losing games.

We will obviously never know, but I'd imagine Petras could have had a decent career if he were in a position to develop properly. He's obviously getting no help from a skill development or coaching standpoint. It would seem to be that athletic success is created through equal parts talent/internal motivation and proper coaching. With one half of that equation being absolutely non-existent, he didn't stand a chance.

Why the regents don't step in blows my mind. Barta costs Iowa millions due to his lgbtq coaching discrimination lawsuits. Openly allows nepotism within FB program. Allowed the rhabdo issue go unpunished in any meaningful way. Has a racial profiling scandal that ousts Doyle from his job and ruins hisreputation, and accusations still in court for both Ferentzs of being racist.
Everything is just fine in IC..... nothing to see here. They are on a good trajectory.

Respect the kid for always answering questions after the game and taking the heat. He's a mature adult. Cannot say the same for BF.

Also, can't blame the kid that he's their best option at QB.... that's KF's fault.
KF couldn't find a QB at an Archie Manning family reunion.

Somebody else said this in the past, but I don't remember who...

Just looked up Phil Parker and pretty incredible he's really only been two places in his career. One year of GA at Sparty after he graduated, Toledo for 10 years then Iowa since 1999 with Ferentz. That's crazy in this day and age

It's really pretty incredible how lucky Iowa has been in almost zero turnover in the coaching tree. Those guys have been incredibly loyal to Kirk and the program. I hope they enjoy it because that isn't going to happen again. When Kirk does step down Iowa and their fans are going to experience what every other program in the country (outside of a select few) have had to deal with.

That's not necessarily a good thing. The DC role under Kirk has went to two low key older guys who aren't really looking to move up, but the offensive side of the ball, it hasn't been loyalty but ineptitude. No one wants to hire anyone from that team. And Ferentz is lazy, he doesn't want to have to hire new coaches so he hires a guy like Greg Davis, who is older and not looking for a head coaching job vs a talented younger guy who would be likely to move on if he succeeded. When that doesn't work out, just hires his own son because again, its the easy and lazy choice instead of finding a younger, successful outside hire.

Iowa's offense problems are 100% Kirk. From KOK to Davis to Brian, NOTHING has changed on that side of the ball and there's exactly one reason why.

I agree. He has never been an offensive wiz, but his offenses are usually at least serviceable and sometimes decent. But the last two years have been atrocious. It starts with the OL. Worst OL of the KF era. They whiff on so many blocks and still can't seem to get the snap off clean. Bad thing is, I'm not sure they have much room for improvement on the OL with another year of experience either.

Until the last couple years, Iowa's offenses have complimented their approach to winning- above average defense, special teams and run game. They were bland offensively, but it didn't matter because they were above average where they wanted to be.

The last couple years that 3 legged stool is missing a leg - an elite OL. The whole foundation of Iowa's program takes a hit without a great OL that enabled them to run consistently. For Kirk's 20 years, their passing game was opportunistic. Their QB's don't throw interceptions, they complete the easy passes and they complete long passes off play action. After all Stanzi, Beathard and Stanley all made NFL rosters.

It seems Iowa's talent evaluation of recruits has been poor, basically since Brian Ferentz became OC. Didn't their best OL, Tyler Lindebaum, come to Iowa as a DL?

Some people can recognize when they got it good. Being a head coach isn't for everyone.

Well put and I think you nailed it.

Yes, Tyler was a DT and switched to Center. They said he could have been an AA at either position, but there was more need on the line.

They are trying to do the same with Logan Jones and it has been a disaster so far.

This is just a way to spin a bad offense. You know what else compliments a good defense? A good offense that can score a lot of points when needed. Iowa has not been a good running team for a long time. Really since Shonn Greene was there, people think they are because they put a lot of OL in the NFL but look at their ypc stats, 2020 4.0 ypc, 2019 3.9 ypc, 2018 4.0, 2017 3.8.

This year Iowa's offense is HORRIBLE. In the past it has just been boring, but it complemented what they did on defense & special teams. It's not trendy in today's college football game, but Kirk has won with defense & special teams. The 5 years prior to this season, Iowa was 28-16 in Big10 play. Remember, this is the first year Campbell has beaten Ferentz. Kirk Ferentz must be doing something right at Iowa!

Sure Lincoln Riley's great offensive teams at Oklahoma were fun to watch, but their defenses were HORRIBLE. Like the saying goes- more than one way to skin a cat!
