Peter Jok to Iowa

From all his videos, he does appear to be fluid, although not real fast or super athletic. Sort of similar to how Niang moves, IMO. He's got a great stroke. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a thorn in our side in the future.

The knock on Jok has been his work ethic. Raw ability has always been there and when he was younger that was enough. Now, as other guys have gotten bigger and caught up, he hasn't put in the work to improve like he needs to.

Maybe the light has gone on for him. If so, he could be really really good. But I'm skeptical. Believe it when I see it.

Have never seen the guy but based on what I hear I am not impressed. Is he like Mr. IA Basketball material here total domination of the State Tourney?

Normally I'd agree, but reading numerous articles about Iowa's recruiting, it looks like they were in the lead for Top 100 play EC Mathews, and I believe his teammate who was a top 150 kid. They could only take 1, and out of nowhere it appears they targeted Jok.

Talking with some Hawk friends, they said that the Iowa staff was at an open gym recently, and that after watching Jok play, they knew they had to get him wrapped up and that he was 'back'. Those are from hawk fans, so take it for what it's worth! There is also supposedly a youtube video of that open gym out there somewhere, but my work doesn't allow me youtube access! Supposedly, Jok looked very good throughout the clip.

It might also say something about Mad Fran striking out with other recruits. The Hawks have been talking about big talent coming in and now Fran takes a fall back position and takes Jok.

This is true and it holds true for just about all programs except Kentucky, KU, etc. I would say that EC Matthews wasn't looking good, nor the other visitor they hosted last week. So they pulled the trigger on Jok.

That's not to say that Jok won't end up better than either of those guys however. He does have some upside, if he can stay healthy, get back to old form, and work hard.

In that case, he could be a big pick up. Time will tell.

I wouldn't have been upset about taking Jok, with the sized class we'll have this year. For Iowa though, with 1 ride, it's a bit of a gamble.

EC Matthews may not qualify from what I have heard. That may be completely wrong but it would be a big factor.

Meh. A verbal commitment now doesn't mean all that much anyway. If he's all the way back from his knee injury then the more prestigious schools will keep sniffing around.

If he signs in November, well before basketball season starts, it sort of shuts that door. But I agree with others. It's a risk-reward play. The reward could be very high if he can get back that bounce that he once had, when just three years ago some people felt he might be the best player in the 2013 class...but that was two injuries ago. If he can't get that bounce back, you have a good shooter at two guard. Not really huge downside as most teams have two or three scholarship players who wind up with low ceilings.

I think there is a question as to whether Matthews can qualify, otherwise he'd have more offers and be out of Iowa's league. That said, I think Iowa was content to play that out and bank the ride if need be. But Fran feels Jok is worth the risk at this point. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

These hawk fans have no idea what they are talking about. They only have one scholy to give. You would not use it to lock up a guy with potential when you had a top 100 player who really wanted to be there. You would take the chance on the top 100 guy. I doubt there was real interest from Matthews in Frans over the top style. If he qualifies he will be putting the ball on the floor for a real contender after this year.

You rather have Jok at center than Reader? You are probably alone on that one.
I never said I wanted Jok at center. I said that if I had to choose which one to give a scholarship to I am taking Jok. The reason I brought up Reader was because people were saying meh, he's not very good (about Jok) and all I was saying is Jok sounds way more exciting than Reader. Obviousy I would be alone if I wanted Jok at center but I never said that. Not even close to what I was trying to say.

Gee, you did not say that?

The point was great two-guard does not fill the need for a post. And Jok is not a great two-guard.
