I have a nomination to be your new head coach. IMO Frank Solich would be a perfect fit. Whereas I was in agreement it was time for a change when Frank was let go at NU I feel he had several obstacles there. The biggest being when taking the job he had to agree to keep Toms entire staff. This staff got complacent on hiim and Frank waited a couple years too long in replacing them. But Frank never had a losing season at Nebraska, the seven and seven reason being the worst. He had a Big 12 Championship team that finished third in the country and the 2001 team played in the BCS championship. He has taken a University of Ohio team with zero football tradition and made them a winning team in two years. He still has recrutiting contacts in the midwest and would put together a good staff. IMO he would love to get back into the Big 12 and compete against NU. You would be able to hire him for alot less than some name coaches and after being at Ohio U he has shown he can operate on a limited budget. He probably would want a bigger football budget than Mac had but not what alot of new coaches would require. I say this knowing ISU would be alot toughter to beat and would be competing for the Northern Division title in a short time with Frank.

Give the guy a break, he came into a mess from Fine's crap and has one recruiting season under him. I think over time his mentality and coaching ability could have helped the program.
The crappy line play this year and last lays at Mccarney's feet for hiring and keeping Fine. Ask anyone who knows football and they will tell you that turning an Oline around takes more than a year.
The problem is that we have guys right now that are spread offense type guys. We have nothing as far as talent needed to run an option type offense. I don't think Pollard wants to wait 3-4 years to bring his guys in.

If you bring someone in that runs a wide open offense like a TTech style (maybe not that dramatic) we have a chance to win right away.

I really want someone who will be an excellent representative for Iowa State (like Mac but a better gameday coach). Frank Solich is not that. He wasn't liked in Lincoln and has had problems with drinking...he got an OWI within the past year or so.
Hasn't Cotton been here for three years? If he was such an impact line coach, I'd think the guys he had to work with would have at least improved a little. I wonder if the dual role became too much for him...

Agreed, can't believe we'd hire a guy with that kind of baggage after the Eustachy debacle. Also rules out Mike Price.
Interesting though as I know Solich must have some friends here (maybe McCarney). He was on our sideline two years ago when we lost to Mizzou.
If the line is so crappy, how do you explain going from a decent season last year to this season, with only losing one player from the offense? I'll admit, I never thought we would beat Texas or Oklahoma this year, but with the weapons we have on offense, Barney should have had a much better grasp on the offense this year than what he did...

While I agree with some of what you said, I also think much of it is completely wrong.
While Meyer is not an ideal option QB, most schools would love to get a Bret Meyer at their helm.
Also, there are very few schools in the nation who wouldn't want to have the size at receiver that we do. Size isn't the problem, it's a willingness to block and the technique to do it well.
As far as a poor O-line and slow RB's, I couldn't agree with you more. If we had a great O-line, I expect we'd be saying how awesome our dual-threat QB and big receivers are.
