Penn State Coaching search guesses.

If Urban wants to coach next year it will be at OSU, next in line will probably be Schiano. I dont see Cpn Kirk leaving Iowa for PSU.
No way Golden leaves the U after one year and the mess that is now PSU.

Not sure about Schiano. He really took Rutgers to a new level, but has been unable to sustain that success ina Big East that was weaker than ever last year. I think the shine has worn off him some.

Actually I think they will go with someone of high character. Someone with good relations to young men. Like mangino or leach.

I think they get some young guy looking to skip a few rungs, or an old coach looking for his last job with no connection to Paterno.

Maybe a recently fired NFL guy.

The more I think about it, big picture, Penn State is better off suspending the football program for a year or two. With no gap the public perception will linger indefinitely.

It's not even about justice, I think ten years from now, PSU will be better off if they imposed their own 2 year suspension than if they don't miss a game. It's in their own self interest.

The next 5 years aren't going to be pretty no matter what, better for them to spend two years not having a program, then 3-6 years rebuilding with a clean conscience.

Absolutely not, you get rid of the program for two years, it's going to take a decade to get it back. You're also shorting your athletic dept out of about $60M so it's going to affect every other sport too.

You clean house, bring in a completely new staff and you'll be shocked at how fast this will blow over. This is going to kill their recruiting for this year and probably next year, but Penn St is a top ten job in the coach. Even if no big name coach wants it now, there will be lots of coaches who do. These types of jobs don't come open very often, regardless of the circumstances. Some coach is going to see this as his chance to get an elite job, if he can survive the next two years, Penn St can be back to normal by year three.

Here's "a list"

Head coaching candidates to replace Joe Paterno at Penn State - College Football - ESPN

If Ferentz did make the short list — I'm not sure that'd be a career move to even consider.

I don't care much one way or another about Ferentz's career -- but if I were current coach at Iowa, I'd stay put unless I was getting the chance at a premiere program with a major $ boost that also didn't include a major leap in expectations (and/or program wasn't mired in recent controversy).

Of course, that job probably doesn't exist.

I think they'll do what tOSU did and basically wait a year to make a real charge at a big name. No way anyone takes the PSU job over the tOSU job this year.

Turner Gill will take them to a National Championship in two years, getting hired before Kansas can fire him.

I agree. I think PSU is going to be humbled by this whole series of events and will have a lot more patience with the new coach than they would have otherwise had with Paterno's successor.
