OU would roll the hawkeyes

Iowa's best comparison to a big 12 team is TCU, look at their 2 common opponents (ISU, MInny) TCU played both on the road and won both games more convincingly than Iowa did but in similar fashion. IMO, that's still a really good team, pry rated in the 8-12 range.

What I don't get about the Hawks is, a month ago, no one gave them respect because of their schedule, even though they had beaten the toughest teams they would face all year. Fast forward a month when they beat 4 teams with losing records, the worst teams in their division/conference and people all of the sudden respect them? Were people really not convinced until they ran the gauntlet of Purdue, Minnesota and Nebraska? Seems like it should have been the other way around but ESPN has to protect their cash cow.

Somewhere along the line the narrative became "It's just SOOOOOO hard to win all of your games, doesn't matter who you play".

Check Northwestern's ranking

Their most impressive ranking... 114th in the nation in total offense. That is one spot ahead of the offensive juggernaut from Lawrence, KS and 3 spots ahead of that powerhouse team... North Texas. They must be really good.

Yep. Iowa will be facing a competent QB this week. Tommy Armstrong has the 5th highest QB rating the Big 10 if that tells you anything about the quality of QB Iowa has faced.

Where does Stanford rank?

Next, compare Indiana's Offensive Rank to Oklahoma State's, Ohio State's, and Alabama's.

Finally, look up Northwestern's Defensive Ranking.

Pro Tip:
Cherry picking a single statistical ranking might not always show the whole picture.

Who is cherrypicking anything? He gave one statistic that's widely considered a pretty darn good indicator of an offense's ability to move the ball to make a point that Northwestern's offense sucks.

Are you saying total offense after 13 weeks isn't a good indicator? What should we go by then? Third-down conversions in night games in the month of October? Total field goal accuracy? Points scored with backup quarterbacks?

If the conversation was in any way just related to how good of an offense each team had, you two might have a point. The actual conversation was regarding Northwestern's overall team ranking. 78 tried to imply that based off NW's total offensive rank (which is poor) that the team isn't very good. I think my point was pretty clear regarding how inaccurate that is. The fact that they have a top 15 defensive ranking must not mean as much.

The point of his post was that their offense sucks. Which it does, per their ranking in total offense after 13 weeks. I understand he was responding to a post about Northwestern's current poll ranking. But his post specifically pointed out how bad the offense is and gave a widely-acknowledged stat to back it up. That's not cherrypicking.

And using the offensive ranking to discredit it. Common man, this isn't that hard...

That should be interesting...it's a bit like in 2002 when any decent QB Iowa faced was not in their conference, and had their way with their secondary. Although I feel like they've had MSU's number at times, correct?

Northwestern is pathetic on offense. What did he possibly say wrong? Iowa fans say Baylor sucks on defense, are they cherry picking?

So it's ok for everyone all year long to rip on Baylor and TCU because of their defense, but don't bring up the fact that Northwestern has one of the worst offenses in the country. That's not important. Defense is all that matters.

I hope Baylor gets Northwestern in a bowl game.... we'll see how that turns out for Northwestern's mighty defense.

I do agree with Twins on this-northwesterns offense does suck-but so does Baylors defense

Well, I was almost right. Instead of the hoks losing their last 3, they will only lose their last 2. I forgot to take into account the fact the Nebraska QB might be the worst QB in the nation. Iowa didn't win the game, he single handedly lost it for nebby. But iowa gets the dub. Finally time to put up or shut up hoks. You are playing for the playoffs, or the Peach bowl. No roses for you.

Agree. The Peach is a low enough rated bowl that they might not lose their last two.

No, of course not. Unless they are implying that Baylor is a bad team due to that one aspect of the team. Then yes, they would be cherry picking a statistical rank to wrongly say that Baylor is not deserving of a top 15 rank. I'm surprise you of all people are having trouble with this. Although severely misguided when it comes to your favorite team, you can usually follow simple logic.

Pretty much the antithesis of what my post stated, but not too bad for clonedude.

Northwestern's offense is absolutely pathetic. Nobody was cherry picking anything to say that. You should pick and choose your battles moving forward because you're better than this
